Last Few Years Posts/Users Disappeared

Post by 98410koauka »

Started out having trouble accessing my phpBB 3.3.4. Received this error:
MRN_SQL_install-error.jpg

This was resolved adjusting the config.php file by adjusting the $dbms statement to mysqli (was mysql) and the $dbhost statement to localhost (was '50.62…). With that I was able to once again access the forum.

Now the real issue… All posts, new users, etc from the last 7 years or so are now missing. I did have a database backup from middle 2020. Unfortunately that too only provided users and posts through 2015. Yes, I know… NO CURRENT BACKUP… however my forum is more of a hobby and is lightly used.

Though I don’t understand… I'm sure my most pressing issue has to do with the following graphics indicating conflicting versions...

And I re-checked yet it remains the same and it definitely is 3.3.4 (Prosilver). I understand there is 3.3.10 available. Somewhere I read in the last couple of days that was the latest stable version however, prior to installing I’d like to get things back to early January 2023 if possible. Another graphic follows from version check….

Finally I did re-run the 3.3.4 install routine to update the dbf only which stated it was successful yet, database version continues to state 3.2.7.

Where have I gone wrong? Is there any help for me from the community, or is this a “Support Request” issue? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Are you sure it's accessing the correct database?
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Yes... as I only show one current database with two privileged users... both me.

Thanks for your reply.

What update method do you use?

Each update that I've done over the years was the Full Package Update paying heed to the 3.2.7 to 3.3 when that occurred. Again, everything was there and functional with 3.3.4 late last year/early Jan '23 prior the SQL fetch error discussed in my original post.

Appreciate your time and thank you for your reply.

Makes your host backups?
If yes try to download a database backup from last week.

Because I had both a 3.2.7 and a 3.3.x recent versions of the database... both still resulted in only showing members, messages, and attachments about 5 years prior.

Thinking strongly about updating to 3.3.10 or 11 to see if that would allow access to newer data.

I presume that when everything is installed correctly... The Files and Database version should match... IE: both 3.3.4... and not show a mix? See original post above for version data.

Everyone... thank you for your time and thoughts.

If the data is not in the database, updating makes no different.
Ask for a backup on your host or search for the correct database on your server.
