Hide unwanted forums topic and not listen by unread post

Post by SeewolfPK »

At the moment I create some groups with categories, user can not see.
User can selve go to the group.
But I think the best way is, user can collapse unwanted forums.
Some styles will do this, but via search unread posting they are not excluded.

no extension needed.

Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I think this is needed. In UCP, there should be a field like this in the Preferences section:

demo-if.png
demo-if.png (9.57 KiB) Viewed 875 times

This has many possible benefits. Moreover, it gives users more control. Some boards can contain many types of content. Some users may not want to see certain sections all the time.

But when such an extension is made, the administrator should be presented with options such that some forums cannot be ignored. Some forums are not nice to be ignored. For example, like a forum where announcements are made.

warmweer's idea of groups might inspire this extension. But using only groups is difficult and not useful. It would be difficult to ask your users to join one or several groups for some forums to be ignored. What if our 10 forums want to hide? 10 different groups. If there are 100 forums, the administrator should create 100 groups and set permissions. You can't join a group with one click. UCP > Groups > Select > Join.

An extension like the one I demoed above is much more useful.

There is a similar extension: 'collabsablecategories'. https://www.phpbb.de/community/viewtopi ... 5#p1421945

It would be very desirable if the user could hide individual topics.

It would be very desirable if the user could hide individual topics.
Collapsible categories (note the spelling!) doesn't hide the category but reduces the visual part to 1 line (with a + preceding the Category title) allowing to open it. That can save a lot of space on the view.

A similar feature for topics wouldn't save much space as the topic title would still be need to be visible (it doesn't remove it but minimises it somewhat).
