"name": "phpbbmodders/adduser",
That line shows the required directory structure (that structure has to be within the yourboardroot/ext/).

A validated extension (downloaded from phpbb.com) will contain the correct directory structure. A package downloaded from somewhere else may or may not contain the full structure, and a github download will usually contain unnecessary files/directories.
Thanks you,
I'm really having a thought time to install this (any) extension.
I followed your suggestions and copied thee extension into the 'ext' folder.
see location screenshot.

However the ACP 'Customize' does no show/recognizes this extension.
I even though cleared the phpBB cache.

What in heaven do I do wrong?
Thanks

You did not follow my suggestion.

you put the phpbbmodders/adduser into ext/phpbb/ instead of into ext/
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

The phpbbmodders folder should be at the same level as the phpbb folder, not a sub-folder of it.

and, if you downloaded the current boardannouncements extension from here, it should be inside that phpbb folder where vigilink is.

I'm feeling embarrassed.
I guess I didn't interpret the instruction properly.
I thought that the vendor folder "phpbbmodders" goes into "ext/phpbb", didn't realized that the phpBB folder apparently a 'vendor' folder is for the default extension "viglink".
I promise, I won't make this mistake again.

Thanks for all your patience with me.
