Social network Twitter closed its offices on Thursday after hundreds of employees decided to leave the company after refusing to work longer under threat of dismissal by tycoon Elon Musk, who bought the platform in late October.

Billionaire Elon Musk had given them an ultimatum to either work "extremely hard" or leave the company and asked them to decide by 5pm local time on Thursday.

Those employees who left the company receive 3 months' salary.

I expect Trump to change his mind for the simple fact that he can reach more people on Twitter. It's still viewed as a "mainstream" social network, despite Elon's antics.

According to US media reports, Twitter has blocked the accounts of at least six prominent journalists. Some of them had reported the suspension of a user account documenting all of Musk's flights as recently as the previous day.

The US short message service did not give any reasons why the journalists' accounts were blocked. Those affected work for renowned media such as CNN, "The New York Times" and "The Washington Post", among others. But freelance journalists were also affected.

"The sudden and unjustified suspension of journalists, including CNN's Donie O'Sullivan, is concerning - but not surprising," the broadcaster said. "Twitter's increasing instability and volatility should cause great concern for anyone who uses the platform." CNN is demanding an explanation from Twitter and is basing its response to the incident on it.

Twitter was never my thing. I only registered there because of the war in Ukraine. But it's best not to write anything on Twitter.
