Quotes required for two extensions.

Post by Midwinter1 »

Title/Job Description:

Quotes required for two extensions - I can re-edit and separate these out into two posts, if required.

2 Extensions.

1) Extension to remove User from Group after a set period of time (measured in days) has passed - with the ability to re-add them where necessary.)

2) Where have all the MUD's gone? Remember the good old days when BB's had MUD's? I do. If you can recreate one of these, I'd love to hear from you...

Target audience: (e.g. professionals, hobbyists, students)

Anyone, but Pro's preferred.

Reward: (e. g. money, backlinks, fame)

Money.

Deadline:

Depends on how fast you can do the job - but remember, I'm only getting quotes at this time.

Preferred contact method: (e.g. PM, e-mail)

PM

Link to the board:

Unable to give a link to the board(s), since they are private, subscriber based boards that's closed to the general public - and one of them doesn't actually exist as yet. (Read the description below for further explanation.)

The site though, is https://the-orlerianchronicles.com

The boards (forums) are linked through the menu in the top right.

Detailed description of the tasks:

1) An extension to remove a User from a Special Group after a set period of time (measured in days) has passed - with the ability to re-add them where necessary.

I assist a book writer who is in the final stages of setting up her new website. She intends to self-fund the site, but also offers readers the ability to subscribe or donate. As an incentive for subscriptions, she has two forums (Only one of which is being set up at present) that offer exclusive content for subscribers.

Ideally, what she needs is something that will communicate with Stripe and give board access to subscribers, keeping note of how long they have paid for and add/remove their board access automatically - however, I understand that there's a lot to this and have come up with a workaround.

Once a subscription is paid, users are manually added to a special group with an editable timer for each user. I say editable, because the timer needs to be able to have time added to it, should a user extend their subscription beyond one month, and it also needs to be able to have time removed from it, should the user be banned for any reason. It should also have a "Permanent" setting so that the Admin and lifetime subscription holders aren't kicked from the board.

Basically, I'm looking at something similar to the Auto-Groups extension, but sadly, this particular feature is lacking in that extension.

2) A MUD...

Remember the good old days where BBS's used to have quizzes and MUD's? I do, in fact I was one of the testers for the CompuNet MUD back in the day...and yes, I do feel old now...

Those days seem to have long gone, but, being the nostalgic fool that I am, I'd love to see one - something that's accessed through the forum - again.

You won't have to design the map and all of the locations, etc - I can do the design of the content and provide it where needed. All I need is the basic skeleton that runs the thing and add to it from there.

However, if the cost of this is too prohibitive, maybe one of you could design an integration with an existing self-hostable, open-source MUD that's already available, where the user wouldn't have to make a separate login, but could play directly from the board?

If you can make one, or both of these extensions, I'd love to hear from you.

Lastly, I need a monetary quote only please.

Thanks in advance, and best wishes,

Chris.

You can use Auto Groups: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... to_groups/

Hi Vinny,

Thank you for your response. I did look at Auto Groups - as I mentioned in my post. In their discussion forum, somebody posted a question asking if that extension could do what I've asked above, and the response from one of the Devs was no.

Is that no longer the case?

Just a quick update - thank you very much, Vinny. I've downloaded the extension and sure enough, there is an option called "Membership Days", so I'm guessing that's what I'm looking for. I'll give it a test now and let you know how I get on.

Thanks once again.

As far as I know, it is possible to remove the user from the group after X days, but if I'm not mistaken, there is no way to re-add. You must do this manually.

Yeah, that bit's ok - the problem I'm having with this particular extension is that you can't set a separate timer for each individual user in a group, or at least I don't think you can. I'm still looking though, to see what I can and cannot do exactly.

Upon further investigation, I think I'm correct in saying that the Membership Days flag, only applies to the group itself?

This might be ok if all of the subscriptions took place on the same day in the month, even though it would be a bit awkward for someone who has bought a consecutive subscription (for 3, 6 or 12 months, for example.)

Since Subscribers can subscribe at any time, I'm trying to see if there's a way round this currently.

To receive extension support please visit our Extensions Database and post in the specific extension's designated support area. The link to the support area for each released extension is also available in the first post of each released extension listed in the [3.3.x] Extension Database Releases forum. For extensions still in development (not recommended for a live board) support is in that extension's topic in the Extensions in Development forum.
