ip filter reliability

Post by cgn1954 »

I have set an unwished Amazon bot IP address as banned but it still appears as a guest. Does the filter (always) work? Se attachement/image...

It's not because an IP has been banned that it can't visit the page. It will the see the "I've been banned" notice (or something like that).
You could however redirect an IP away from your board (using .htaccess).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Aha.... ok, that's a great difference to my expected "firewall-rule-thing".

At the same time - I have entered banned ip addresses and they have not - as I see - reappeared on the guest list. What should I expect from the phpBB function? That they (the stupid bots) get a sign "You are banned" and hopefully won't come back?

Ok - I'll check the .htaccess´thing.

Many thanks for reply. I'm not an expert but this is kind of fun.. still.
