What's the Progress code for?

Hello!

What's the "Progress" code for? It came with a software update a couple of years ago and it doesn't seem to do anything useful. Before we remove it, it would be interesting to know what it is supposed to do.

That is not the default editor for phpBB and would be part of an extension. Seek support from where you downloaded it before removing the bbcode to make sure deleting just the bbcode is not going to break anything. If it was downloaded here there is support pages dedicated to each extension.

You would use it for visual indication of progress on a project.

See what it looks like. Go into your full editor and click it. Enter in This bbcode is [progress]90[/progress] usable. and click Preview to see it.

Looks like the sort of thing that would generate a percentage progress bar for a project.

It wasn't connected to an extension, so it just sat there and did nothing. @thecoalman was right, it was supposed to be used to show progress on projects (in our case writing challenges).
