regarding the ko translation

Post by schoolP »

I have a request regarding the translation of the phpBB3 forum into Korean (Ko language pack). Currently, I am using an incomplete translation that dates back to March-December 2003, which I found during my search for a Ko language pack.
However, I realized that this outdated translation is causing issues, as it clashes with the English (En) version and doesn't provide a seamless experience for users. Therefore, I have taken the initiative to begin translating the Ko language pack from scratch myself. Today, I completed the first half, including the installation file part and the search word file, but I haven't touched the ACP (Administration Control Panel) part yet.

However, I had an idea while working on the translation. Instead of continuing with the incomplete version and dealing with potential inconsistencies, I thought it would be more beneficial to start fresh with the latest version of the language pack. I understand that this would require a lot of effort since I have no prior experience in translation, but I believe it will be worth it in the long run.

Before proceeding with the decision to start over, I would like to seek your advice on this matter. If you could kindly provide me with the pros and cons of both approaches, it would immensely help me make an informed decision for the translation process.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

p .s
Hello, I come seeking your assistance due to my limited expertise in this matter. Currently, I possess the ko language pack comprising three folders and sixteen files: ACP, EMAIL, and MOD, alongside common.php, groups.php, help_bbcode.php, help_faq.php, index.htm, install.php, iso.txt, mcp.php, memberlist.php, posting.php, search_ignore_words.php, search_synonyms.php, search.php, ucp.php, viewforum.php, and View topic.php.

Notably, my current common.php file contains 860 lines, while the most recent version consists of 1466 lines. I wonder whether it is possible to merely integrate the files from the older version into the newer version and subsequently proceed with translating the remaining lines?
Thank you kindly for your valuable guidance and support.

--------
Thanks for the advice. The non-complete Korean language pack that I downloaded from phpBB Korea(phpbbkorea.com) will be downloaded without conditions by the end of next week. If this old ko language pack causes frequent conflicts with the 3.3.1 version, I'll ask for a solution again. If there are no major conflicts, we will quickly move to ko 3.3.1. language pack. Thank you

Perhaps he's active on http://phpbbkorea.com
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

So that's probably a 막다른 지경 (for those wondering: >>> dead end  )

I thought as much as it's a 3.0.14 board.

Added: you could try sending schoolP a mail.

Are you currently working on Korean Translation?? I contacted the admin of bb.itosm.com and currently waiting for his/her reply. If you have public Github repository working on Korean Translation, I'll make contribution.
