I really would like to add subscriptions to my forum, defined in that extension: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/groupsub/
Sadly the Author did pass away and is unlikely to support the mod so i wonder if anyone has an idea or would like to work to revive it.

Try the contact form. There's even a dropdown for 'I can't register' in the message subject.
Does seem a bit odd on a public site to ask you for the code and then not tell you where you can find it or obtain it.
