I do not agree with you. I have several paid extensions that don't exist in the phpBB repository and they are extremely useful, for me at least.
I believe this is not quite the case, look at Wordpress or Joomla. Someone said that with a paid extension you run the risk of not getting any more updates, which is not very different from here at phpBB.
And even so, when you need help with an extension here at phpBB you receive the answer to contact the owner.
I don't deny that there are useful extensions in the phpBB repository, but how many are kept up to date?
