Attachement upload to only one forum?

The forum I am running does not allow users to upload attachements - for good reasons.
But at the same time users who request support often need to share files, and leaving them with no spot to upload makes the work of the supported difficult as well.

So now we are thinking to configure one special support forum that
- allows users to attach files
- auto-expires forum posts after 30 days

Is something like this possible? How?

I tried to create a forum, then set permissions to 'registered users' such that they are allowed to upload files. While I can post to that forum I do not see a file upload button anywhere. So if I already did the right thing, how can I now upload files?

Yes, I read that page and it confirm what I thought pruning is for. I configured that to 30 days for this new forum for everything: topics and special topics.
But how can I add attachements? That was the whole point of creating the new forum.

AFAIR can attach files is a user/group- forum permission.
If you can't attach files then use the permission mask to trace the settings that blocks that.

Perhaps you missed it so I'll mention it, there is tabs below the posting pane and one of them is labeled attachments. You need to click the tab. If you hit the post reply button here you'll see where it's at.

Good you mentioned that, thank you. Yes, I can see that tab on this forum but not on mine. Here's a screenshot how mine looks like:



Now that I know where to look in the UI I can definitely say attachements are not enabled. But I still do not see the reason why.

Post a permission trace for can attach files for the specific user and specific forum.

ACP > tab PERMISSIONS > PERMISSION MASKS

This is ambiguous but go to the permissions tab and then under global permissions click the link for group permissions. Check what permissions are set for "Can attach files". It's global setting and I don't know what effect it has when forum permissions are set to yes.

Everyone belongs to registered users group including admins. Permissions are the aggregate of yes permissions minus never permissions.

Yes - permissions is granted.
No - No for this group but will be overridden by yes if the user belongs to another group with yes permission.
Never - Always never and overrides yes.

Generally speaking use the registered users group to set permissions you want everyone to have using yes and no. Only use never if you want to remove them from everyone. Add permissions with other groups by setting them to yes. Never permissions can be used to take away permissions set in registered user group, usually just the newly registered user group.
