Heads up if you are using reCAPTCHA

Post by thecoalman »

I don't use the service so I don't know anything about the backend but they are reducing the free tier assessments to 10K per month.

Corporations are overly hungry for even more money. Not surprising.

To be honest, I don't understand the new concept.
Generally saying "ReCaptcha" and not finding any distinctions, like V1, - V2, - V3 ....
Charging small website operators and/or medium-sized, large companies makes a huge difference to me.

The announcement dates from February with implementation on April 1, 2024. This measure comes at a time when the fight against bots is becoming more and more complex. Faced with this situation, Google considers that this adjustment is legitimate, because it supports the research and development efforts necessary to further improve the quality of its service. Furthermore, this decision is part of the company's desire to offer ever more efficient solutions to protect websites and their users.

Yes SSL, I am familiar with the linked announcement and the content of the information as well as other discussions on the WWW.
It may be categorised as important from a business perspective. Yes, Google considers this customisation legitimate as it supports the research and development efforts needed to further improve the quality of its service. ReCAPTCHA is Google's CAPTCHA service designed to protect websites from spam and abuse by separating human users from malicious bots, scripts and algorithms. Nevertheless, there is no recognisable reason for me to charge for the structure of this "invisible" plugin, as it was not previously subject to a charge. This service should of course be careful not to fall into any cost traps.

I, myself have not received an announcement regarding "the new" ReCaptcha.

For example, we are overrun by malicious or masked bots every second, every minute. It may be that this is for research and development purposes.

Well, good advice is expensive. ;)
