The showcase is just a small example of some sites using phpBB to give a little inspiration if you want to make it look a bit different.
You're talking about a list of every site. I didn't say phpBB was irrelevant. I said a list of sites running that software is, because people don't care what the forum software is, they're joining a site because of the subject it covers.
Well, I suspect I came on a fair bit too hardcore in my last post here, and I apologize.
But I think the looks of a landing page upon first sight is a biggie when people are choosing a community for whatever subject they may be interested in, so I totally disagree that looks aren't important. And there are a whole lot of folks that are not on the Net for any other reason than to just check out communities they may stumble upon or may have been told about; not because of a specific subject.
Now, the last decade or so it seems that a cute style on a landing page has been in fashion. How I would define 'cute' would take a lot of writing, but just one example is so many popular sites are not even clear about what folks are discussing until a person clicks on this and that to get to the heart of a discussion. Whereas a phpBB style is many times so easy to grab the essence of what's going on in the community just by looking at the landing page. And I think that is a style that is returning. I think as the younger folks gain a bit of age they also get tired of 'cute' and like communities that are more on the 'plain' side in layout.
As for that list I was referring to, I'm not at all interested in every site that is using this platform. I'm thinking/aiming more for maybe the top 20 or so. Now I get that idea of the 'showcase' list, but wish to take that just a tad step or so further. I'm actually a bit surprised it hasn't already been done already on this platform; in this community.
I think in one of my posts here in this topic I was posting something about if the rules here allow for me to produce and show that list here? If I haven't already asked that question, my error. Then I'm asking now?
