[Split] updating php from 7.4.33 to 8.2.12

Post by oferlaor »

is there a performance change between 8.2.12 and 7.4.33?

Does PHPBB run faster/slower with it? Did anyone benchmark?

Both PHP 8.2 and 8.3 are, alledgedly, faster than 7.4 but everywhere I’ve read the speed increase is minuscule and you probably wouldn’t notice it.

Take a look at PHP Benchmarks: Speed Tests for Versions 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 although there is no testing of phpBB.

More importantly take a look at PHP: Supported Versions and you will see that PHP 7.4 branch is end-of-life (EOL) and no longer supported as of 28 Nov 2022 (1 year, 7 months ago).
