Error building the container.

Post by Art Poulos »

After upgrade to 3.3.12 I get this message when I activate or de-activate a member:
phpBB encountered an error building the container due to an installed extension. For this reason, all extensions have been temporarily disabled. Please try purging your forum cache. All extensions will automatically be re-enabled once the container error is resolved. If this error continues, please visit phpBB.com for support.

Exception:
This is all I get, nothing after the "Exception:"
I removed all extensions, deleted their data, cleared cash but I still get same message. I even deleted all extension folders from forum directory but... same results.

Thank you.

What update method and FTP software did you use to upload the phpBB 3.3.12 files? And what mode was that software set to? FileZilla for example uses the text mode as default to upload files which can lead to errors within the uploaded files and thus produce unpredictable errors when running phpBB.
Watz fo lunch?

Hi.
I used the server's upload tool (file manager) to upload the zipped 3.3.12 files (Vendor, Install, Docs). Removed the old files and extracted the new ones. Then, as per phpBB's instructions, I "called" the install function (www. mysite .com/forums/install/) and followed through. Everything seems to work fine except I get that message when I run several functions in ACP.

I have also installed XAMPP on my PC, have the forum installed there, and I get the same error message. So, I doubt the files were corrupted during upload to the server.

Don't extract the files on the server, use a ftp program to upload the files!
Sorry! My English is bat ;) !!!

Well, after running "Purge the cache" so many times, I decided to also run "Purge all sessions" just for the hack of it. Guess what! That did the trick! I no longer get that "Error building container...".

I know, using an ftp, people say it is more accurate but I gave that up many years ago. Ftp takes long - long time to upload files. Using the server's Upload function, via File Manager (cPanel), takes just a few seconds and its very accurate too. Just drag the file from your desktop and drop it in the server's Upload box, it uploads in seconds. I have been uploading thousands of files like that in the past ten years with no problem at all.

Hmmm, This is strange! If I run "Purge all sessions" and stay logged in, the error message does not show. If I log out or just leave the forum, when I come back the message shows up again when I activate a member (and/or do some other functions too).
