We're experiencing some odd issues since the latest 3.3.12 update on some of our forums.
If you don't visit for a few days, then on the "new posts" you won't be shown the new messages since last visit anymore, maybe only new messages from today.
However, when clicking the "unread posts" then all those new posts you haven't seen yet are shown.
Is there a setting which might have been switched or something? Or cookie setting or whatever? Because before we always got new posts since last visit via the "new posts" link, no matter how long we did not visited the forums.
Or maybe I did a wrong setting.
We are running phpBB 3.3.12
PHP version 8.1
Apache 2.4.62
Mariadb 10.6.18

There isn't a automatic update update in phpbb?
So not sure what you did?
See: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... ide/minor/
The advice is to use: Section 2.5.1, “Full Package”
Follow the directions to step 7, also delete the install folder before uploading. After uploading go into /cache folder on you server and delete everything but .htaccess and index.htm.
“Results! Why, man, I have gotten a lot of results! I have found several thousand things that won’t work.”
It looks like it's not caused by the way of updating. Doing advanced update and then replace changed files should be the same.
However we are also experiencing this problem with 2 other forums which both have done the full update, the way it's written in the docs.
But it seems I've found part of the cause, however I don't know what the exact cause is and how to fix this.
Could this issue be caused by some configuration of nGinx or something with cache like redis or whatever?
Because I had a look on my own servers which has also 2 forums running which I update myself. They don't have the issue anymore, there the fix has worked. Both also updated with the advanced update.
The 3 forums with the issue (so 2 forums with full update and 1 forum with advanced update and replace changed files) are all on the same server from an external hoster, not my servers. Those 3 are also within the same hosting account.
Since 2 of the 3 forums on this server were already updated using the full update, I can try to remove the cache folder, however I have some doubt that this will result into anything as I always use the "empty cache" button once updated.
So the problem seems to be limited to a certain server or hosting account, not the update method.
