Are duplicate language file entries problematic?

Post by Gumboots »

I'm thinking of editing the registration agreement for the site I run, which is simple enough. Then I thought I might tweak up a few other strings that have (IMO) somewhat clumsy wording.

Is there any problem with dropping the customised entries in a handy chunk at the end of the file? Easier to update. Will phpBB just accept the later entries without grumbling about duplicates? Or will it throw a wobbly and demand blood sacrifices?

Why not create a simple extension that would overwrite the value of the vanilla language string? Next time you update your board you wouldn't have to worry about it

Because then I have to get into writing "a simple extension" and that means more faffing around now, which I don't want now because I'm up to my eyeballs in other stuff. Also the answer to everything here seems to be "write an extension", which ultimately means things do not end up being simple.

Anyway I just tried bunging a duplicate on the end of the file. Hasn't borked anything, AFAICT. Seems ok (famous last words).

Because that is the best way of avoiding replying your changes every time you update. I don't know why are some people so stubborn and try to avoid it at all cost. Making simple extension that lets you add css/js modify language sting is not that complicated.

Neither is plonking a custom array on the end of a PHP file once in a blue moon.
