ban user from a sub/forum not complete site

Post by Hof »

i.e. not a global ban

Is there a setting in ACP/MCP? or even a plugin/extension.
and would it be possible to assign this right/permission to a group/sub-forum's board master?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Make a new group and put them in it.
In group forum permissions, choose that group, that forum and standard access.
Then in advanced permissions set the 'can see forum' to NEVER

Anyone in that group will not be able to see it. When you want to undo the ban, just take them out of the group again.

user/forum permissions
or better even: make a group for those users, set group/forum permissions and then add the user to the group.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

thanks @KeVC and @warmweer for sharing your thoughts.

those are all standard users, i.e. as registered users. They can participate in each forum, yet some user may violate the rules in the sub-forum thus would be banned only from that sub-forum. I checked ACP, currently 3.3.x has the a global ban and by global moderators, thus once the user got banned, he/she cannot post in any forum, i.e. complete site.

what's more, the local ban to that sub-forum, can only be issued by the sub-forum moderator.

There's no need for a global ban.
Set group/forum permissions for that "banned" group to NEVER for can see forum, etc..
Take into account that if that specific forum is visible to guests all that "restricted" user needs to do is to log out (and then he can see that specific forum).

If you have several forums that several moderators each look after and you wanted them to be able to ban from their respective areas you could make a 'ban' group for each and make them the manager of their own group so they can control the people who go in and out of it.
