Useragent Go-http-client/2.0

Post by [Dimetrodon] »

I have seen some "guests" with the useragent Go-http-client/2.0 have been showing up on my board. Does anyone know what that useragent means?

Is it a bad bot? Should I block it? It has to be some sort of bot though whois doesn't tell me much except it is from the U.S. and it is supposedly associated with my hosting provider, though I am not sure if it was spoofed or not.

I read that. If it is a crawler, I do not know who it is from. Google might be the developer but I doubt it is google hitting my site.

I did. I said in the OP that the whois claimed it was from my host. I question of that is true however.

The pages it was looking at was not a page I recently looked at so it is not me who initiated it either.

I mean, maybe my host would crawl my site for some reason, but I never heard of that happening.

It's not uncommon for a scraper bots to be running from hosting service; AWS, OVH and some others top the list. If you have AWstats in hosting control panel and look up by IP chances are the IP's with the highest requests are from hosts. It's probably just a coincidence it's your host. If it's against the TOS report it to the host.

Surprisingly, despite it showing up on viewonline.php at certain times, the server logs do not mention it. It mentions plenty of SEO bots I did not notice, but nothing with that useragent.

I know my host scans my site for malware and hacking attempts, so maybe it was just part of those services.
