My favicon doesn't show up right in the google search

Post by deepndark »

My favicon seems to be cut from it's outlines when you google my site i.e. reasonheads: https://www.google.com/search?q=reasonh ... e&ie=UTF-8

It used to shop up right before. Anyone knows why it is so?

My favicons are from 16x16pix to 512x512pix.

Also I'm not sure if I have the favicon codes in both, the mainsite and somewhere part of the phpbb-files.

Please help!

I can see your favicon ok, what’s it supposed to look like? Have you tried the default prosilver?

favicon shows up just fine.

However ...
Your version of prosilver 3.2.8 and that of your other styles is 3.2.5.

As you know, support for 3.2 and earlier is limited to support with upgrading the the latest version, which implies finding out whether you can select a PHP version suitable for 3.3.13.
Seeing the number of extensions you're using, you should also starting looking for updated version.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Google shows favicons as circles.

I upgraded my phpbb 2.2.8 to 3.3.13.
I had to be very focused to not mess things up, but everything went well during the update.
Installed a new style too + upgraded the extensions. I created a new favicon too, which is circled so it should look fine on the google search. But the favicon changes take a place later on when google has updated it.

I can understand you needed to be focused.
I never succeeded in upgrading from 2.2.8 ;)

favicon.ico is default file that should be placed in the root of the domain, browsers and search engines will look for it there. There is also other files you can add. The best thing to do is take a high resolution transparent .png and use one of the numerous online tools to generate the various files.

The only thing this would have to do with phpBB is if you added meta tags in overall_header.html or you have an extension installed. The meta tags are optional but those tools will usually give you the HTML to add the meta tag.

I have it so already - anyway I generated a new circled favicon so it should look fine. Just need to wait til google changes it for the searchengine now.
