Database and files

Post by halil16 »

I'm being lazy writing this instead of trying, forgive me. :) I just want to make sure.

Do extension settings or options in the board affect the extension file? If I just move the database and add new files later, will the same things continue?

I am not sure what this means. Please clarify.

Assuming you wanted minimal backup but be able to fully restore.....
  • DB backup obviously
  • files folder
  • images folder(avatars, custom similes and custom post icons)
Optionally:
  • styles folder if you installed custom style
  • ext folder if you installed extensions
  • language folder if you installed language
  • config.php
You can always replace the custom styles, language and ext's with downloaded copies BUT they need to be correct versions so it's just easier to copy or move them instead of trying to hunt down the correct version.

If i understand you correctly you are asking if settings of an extension that you can adjust in ACP are store in database or in the files. The answer is in the database ;)

Thank you all for your answers.

I moved a site to a Plesk server, but I couldn't find the file control I was used to in cpanel. That's why when I make a change, I edit the files on the old server and then copy the contents of the file to the file on the new server. If I move to a server again in the future or get cpanel, I'm thinking of moving the files from cpanel. Now I learned what to pay attention to. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't care too much.
