Is there an installation guide for dummies?

Post by MAA_T »

I've read the mod installation guide but have no idea what any of it means. Is there someone I can hire to do it for me? Or is there another installation guide that I can teach myself with?

Sorry misread the first post.

The key with adding MODs is to just take your time and do backups.

Do exactly what the MOD instructions are telling you to do with regard to OPEN, FIND, REPLACE etc.

Of course, you can install easymod and let that do it all for you.

What's easymod? And where do I get it. I have no idea what I'm suppose to replace, where I'm suppose to upload it, etc. BUT, i'd like to learn. :D

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=217673

EasyMOD reads the install instructions for you and makes all the changes and even backs up the files it changes.

A MOD installation is just a list of directions
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=150

It tells you which files you need to open and what to do in them such as finding a particular line and replacing it or editing it with what it tells you.

If you do it manually make sure you back up the files you change so if it messesup you can put it back to how it was.

Here's a real stupid question. How do you install easyMOD? I downloaded it and couldn't find a readme file or anything else that looked like install instructions. I went to the developer site and all I found where various topics asking for help, but not a sticky or anything else mentioning how to install the thing.

I'm wary of just winging it and crossing my fingers that I'm doing the right things. I prefer following step-by-step instructions so if I do mess up I can retrace my steps.

Little help?

Thanks.

EasyMOD support can be obtained here.
No longer supporting phpBB. PM or email me regarding support and you will be ignored. I'm fully done with phpBB and everything.

I tried there but didn't find what I was looking for.
[DOC] Installing EasyMOD - Coming Soon!

Thanks anyway.

ETA:

I had the forum open in another window so while I was browsing this site (and others) I was also searching area51 for help. I finally found my answer on page 4 of the Installing EasyMOD index. Someone asked where the readme file was (like moi) and this was the response:
you mean install directions

you don't need one
upload the mods folder to the admin root and go to the install.php

Well now I know. It'd be nice if this information was easier to find. I know it's not the fault of anyone here, just saying.
