OK I did see a post where a guy was having this problem and he said it fixed itself in a few days.

Neither he or I had changed anything.

I am figuring that my host might need to restart a service or something.

What should I tell them?

I have been researching this all day and am aware of file size etc..
it has to be something on the host.

great mod

it must be the size of the file that is giving you that problem. many hosts only allow 2mb uploads. you might be ably to contact them and ask that they increase it.

I have a troubleshooting post on acydburn's site http://www.opentools.de/board/viewtopic ... 8289#18289

I am lucky my host allows 8mb attachemnts.
good luck.

I also get a blank page when I go and submit.
I've check and the file actually uploads to the dir ok and I can also only see the attachment before posting in "preview" only but as soon as I submit the page becomes blank and unaccessible. How do you fix that?

Somewhere deep in these 745 pages I saw a post saying the same thing. he just refreshed and the screen would come back up. I think it was around 704-740

I did not see an answer to the problem though.

mmm, I also noticed I can only see the attachment option as an admin not as a normal user.

Chops: go to admin panel and under forum permisions and there set the attachment permissions for selected forum, if no permission is given then normal users cant use this function :wink:

nice doing your own server.

I have seen some posts about getting in and changing the defaults on a windows server. in iss look for php.ini and see if you can change those things. Not sure, just guessing.

I am in by no means an expert or slightly informed on this mod. Just did a bunch of research on the "Tried to upload empty file" thing.

Maybe setting .mp3 to streaming might help.

good luck.

Ok great, thanks for that it worked but I'm still having the "blank" page issue after attaching.

[b] PROBLEM SOLVED WITH "Tried to upload empty file&

Post by Morpheuss »

I solved the problem regarding problem - Tried to upload empty file

If any of you who has this problem is using windows and apache server or any other with integrated PHP, this will solve your problem.

The problem is in php.ini, you should find it in %winroot folder
and find next text in that file:

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; File Uploads ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; Whether to allow HTTP file uploads.
file_uploads = On

; Temporary directory for HTTP uploaded files (will use system default if not
; specified).
upload_tmp_dir = C:\www\PHP\uploadtemp ; temporary directory for HTTP uploaded files (will use system default if not specified)

; Maximum allowed size for uploaded files.
upload_max_filesize = 2M

Change that upload_max_filesize to whatever you wish just that is bigger then default 2MBs

Hope this will help all of you with this problem :wink:

beerorkid: tnx for a good guess :wink:

it would be nice if that error said something like

size of file exceeds limits or something

Please excuse me if you have discussed this already, but here is a question.
When i install the privmsg.php as in pre-mod

Code: Select all

		{
			$mark_list[] = $row['privmsgs_id'];
		}

		unset($delete_type);
		$attachment_mod['pm']->delete_all_pm_attachments($mark_list);
, then my attached files do not get deleted when i erase pm post out of inbox messages content page (using marked msgs).
They do get deleted when i insert the line after finding the closing brace, which is a couple of screens below (after some 'if' statements):

Code: Select all

			if ( !$db->sql_query($delete_text_sql, END_TRANSACTION) )
			{
				message_die(GENERAL_ERROR, 'Could not delete private message text', '', __LINE__, __FILE__, $delete_text_sql);
			}
		}
	}
	$attachment_mod['pm']->delete_all_pm_attachments($mark_list);
}
else if ( $save && $mark_list && $folder != 'savebox' && $folder != 'outbox' )
{
BUT anyway, the file does NOT get deleted from within a message itself (after pressing Delete Message button or Delete Attachment button).
I CAN'T FIX iT, PLEASE NEED HELP.
