You see on a regular basis sites being hacked, the majority of the time because admins did not upgrade to the latest versions.
When you log in to the admin control panel you are told if you need to update. Okay folk might have mods, but is it worth the trouble not upgrading after all the effort to make your board a success, possibly losing everything?
It may be that they think with all the boards out there that the chance of them being hacked is pretty remote. Remember also that the addition of the warning about your version being out of date has not been there very long (relatively).
If you have not been hacked and everything has just ticked along then you may have had no cause to visit this board and find that you were out of date. I have seen several instances of folks seeking help that were on version 1.
There may also be lots of folks that are afraid to update in case they screw up their boards. We have all seen instances of that in the Support forum.
Some have also got boards that have been simple 1 click installs and their host has control over the upgrades and has not done them.
There was even an instance in the last week were someone did have access to their boards files with ftp despite it being on free hosting and the host was supplying them with 2.0.6

The truth is out there.
Unfortunately they will not let you anywhere near it!
I never realised the upgrade warning was a new feature.
I suppose backing up should be straight forward, but I spent a while carrying out backups before I realised the back up can be corrupt for various reasons.
Noticed cpanel took a while to upgrade to latest version.
cheers for the replys, was just curious thats why I asked the question.
Believe it or not many people just dont realize that they even need to update. It's usually not unti they get hacked that they look into the reason behind it.
Upgrading forum really pain in the ass. It takes too much time to upgrade without easy mod and sometime easy mod won't work if the board is modded. Anyhow, its better to upgrade rather then feeling sad if anything happen.
1-Stupid/ignorant
2-lazy
3-or both of the above.

It always astounds me how so many boards are still using versions 2.0.4/13. A lot of boards still don't have user visual ID - often since the template/theme they use is also out of date, so they have literally dozens of robots registering and spamming their forums.
- Not much time for doing this
- A lot of mods inside, so remod their board after each update is a pain for them
- Maybe they are really beginners and they can hardly manage their website...
- Or they are just tired to update their board 10 times each year...
They want maybe fulfill the update just by push a button and bzzzzzz the update is done...
No more Team Chocolate Member. I decided to leave, it's my choice. Thanks to all for all these years.
I'm always near if you need news of me. But no more support is given (private notification disabled)

sorry but upgrading a vanilla board takes a matter of seconds. If you add mods you do so knowing the consequences of this.......one being the fact upgrading becomes more difficult. So people adding lots of mods can not then complain about having to upgrade.
