that article explains how to do MODs . it is very simple,

get a text editor, not frontpage or word, etc.

open the file in question
find the code it tells you to.

add the code it tells you to where it tells you to.

save the file and upload it back to the server.

pretty simple

Is there a way to edit and view my forum offline before uploading a mod?
I have backed up everything to my desktop.
I am having a very difficult time trying to understand how to install this mod.
Thank you

If you're using a Windows-based pc, you should have Notepad and Wordpad both available - personally, I prefer Wordpad because it's easier to read the template files, but either one works fine.

You open the file you want to edit, make your changes, save, and upload to your server choosing to "overwrite" the file that's there (make sure you have backups in case something goes wrong though!!).

BTW - it's got nothing to do with being a guy!! You'll be fine once you get some practice in, too!!

correct, I said not word, wordpad is not word.

wordpad comes with windows. word is part of MS Office.

anyway,

just do to subBlack whatever it says to do to subSilver.

http://www.textpad.com/index.html

TEXTPAD is a GREAT editor for using 'php' with...it color codes and you can use the 'UNDO' button even after saving a file...and they use 'phpBB' as their forum.... :D

Thanks all
Im working on it right now, I just dont want to screw up the entire forum 8O

I already did that once
I had to have the person that set it up for me get the board going again then I just ran a Backup

Is there a way to view/practice on the forum (I copied EVERY file that I have uploaded to the site)
This way I could see if it worked before I upload it.
Thanks again

Not without another database running the same config....
in other words, NO....(not that I know of)

IMPORTANT: if you are running your forum with a diff theme than 'subsilver' then you will be opening the 'index_body.tpl' from in your themes folder, not the 'subsilver' folder....same with the 'overall_footer' file.

you might wonder "why didnt it work" if you didnt use 'your' theme.

BTW, what is the URL of you forum??
