No, I don't see the filtered userlist (inactives), guests can still see the memberlist and there doesn't appear to be any new entry in the ACP for UserShield.

"Start from scratch" - not really; after trying to run update_config (from the wrong folder I believe) manually and getting no forum results, I tried a 2nd time with EM. That resulted in a bunch of succesfully processed actions, and the final error I outlined last message. (BTW, when I say manually, *all* I did was open the update_config*.php file and followed whatever was there. I didn't hand-edit any code.) EDIT: according to EM History list, the only processed Mod was EM. It didn't list UShield.

I'm totally open to suggestions as to my next step, but I'm curious what the new entry in ACP/User and Forum Basic Settings would be, given a successful install? Just so I can more easily know what to look for.

Allright, here's what I would do at this point. Copy the "contrib" folder with the installation instruction template under the "mods" folder such as:
  1. your_forum_root/admin/mods/contrib/install_user_shield_v1_2_1.txt
I would then access EM through the ACP and launch the installation routine once more. I know at this point that I'm going to get an error on the database update part, because it's already been done. I'm just going to ignore it and proceed with the installation until completion. Once done, User Shield should be installed properly. Next I would confirm that I do have a new entry for User Shield in the ACP:

ACP --> "General Admin" --> "Configuration" --> "User and Forum Basic Settings".

... and this is what you should look for:

By default, it's ON and you should be good to go. Check the "Index" page, specifically in the "Who's Online" table, and you should see a link to the "non-active" filtered list above the line "The newest activated registered... ". Or, you could also access the "Memberlist" directly and open the sort list, which should offer you a "non-active" filter. Try it out! Don't forget though, you have to be logged in as an admin. to see this. As a user or moderator, you won't see anything.

I'll be waiting for the good news editingfx ...

Don't need update_config_v1_2_1.php anywhere for the install?

No, not if you're using EM. And you did run it already. You could confirm this by accessing the database with "phpMyAdmin" or "cpanel" or whatever utility your host has provided for you. Access the "config" table and you should find an entry such as:
username_hide_inac

You do have the option of deleting it, that way when you run EM, it won't give you any errors.

Ahhh... ok, I know where you're coming from now. Sorry to say, but no MODS are EM compliant. 8O Yes, I did say that. There was an article posted here about it and explaining why, but I cant seem to find it now. Basically, it emphasized that since EM had not establised standards yet, no MODs could specify that they were EM compliant. You'll notice, that the installation instruction template mentions:
Installation template wrote: ## Additional MOD information:
## - Released for, and tested on, phpBB2 v2.0.21 [subSilver].
## - Tested on FF 1.5, Opera 8.5 and IE 6.
## - Numerous installations with EasyMOD version 0.3.0 were successful and took on average less than 30 seconds.

No MODs currently in the MODs DB is allowed to specify that it is EM compliant.

Eureka! Lol - if only I'd gone ahead and pressed the damn "Complete Installation" button in EM the *first* time! For a non-PHP/SQL noob that stuff can be a bit intimidating. I'm a VIDEO editor, not a CODER, Jim. Thanks Wolf... dunno if it'd help others like me to put some info that EM is going to report funky stuff, but it'll work anyway if you just press the shiny button, in your install notes. Big issue here was obviously my clueless state. Onward thru the fog, eh? Thanks again. [grin - all this for a board that will 100 users if we're LUCKY. but it's all for the newest city in Georgia, and 10th largest at that, so let your civic pride show Wolfie!]

Congratulations on your first successful MOD install. That's no small feat! And you're very welcome. Very glad you've got it sorted. It's also a good and valid experience for the next time you'll want to install a MOD. Oh yes, there will be a next time.

Good luck to you,
Wolf

Hi drywash,

Not at all, feel free to install it manually. If you do, would you let me know how long it took you to do so? Also, it is not required that you set "Account activation" to admin, but for best protection it is recommended.

Did you notice a new category called "MOD Center", located in the left hand viewer pane in the ACP? I just want to make sure EM is installed correctly before I help you install User Shield... if need be.

Let me know.

But I also have this:
my_forum_root/admin/mods/easymod/ in the same mods folder...
