captcha image has no confirmation code

Post by duderonomy » Mon Oct 16, 2006 11:22 am

Hi,

I installed the Advanced Visual Confirmation mod:
http://www.amigalink.de/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=529

I get the image to display in the registration page however there is no text in the image. The only items that are rendered in the captcha image are background objects like grids, lines, and ovals.

The thread about this mod, appears to be closed:
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=222560

Any hints or suggestions on how to debug this? My log files are hard to find due to my ISP running virtual servers. Hence, I tried finding some program error messages in apache log files.

Cheers,
D

Why did you install that MOD when phpBB comes with visual confirmation built in?

I have installed phpBB-2.0.21.zip on 3 sites.

None have the visual confirmation built in ?

I can't see anywhere where it needs activating?

It has been built in since version 2.0.11 but you must turn it on.
Admin CP>general admin>configuration and you will see the option to enable it.

The truth is out there.
Unfortunately they will not let you anywhere near it!

Aghhhhhh,

I've just changed to SubSilver and it appears in the control panel!!

Previously It didn't. Part of my install is to set up the skin before I do admin config.

Surely the admin shouldn't be affected by the skin you use!

But thanks

You might find this useful

Sounds like you're using a template made before VC was added. So it's missing the code which is why it doesn't show up in the admin panel.

I was told by a sysadmin who had several years of experience maintaining a phpBB board that this advanced captcha system was an important tool aginst auto registering bots. I hope he was right. Thanks for your interest.

This was solved when the ISP's php program was re-built with some changes in the truetype options area. HTH someone in the future.
