Ok folks, now update to version 0.9.5 BETA

There have been quite a lot of changes this time...
  • Changed layout of admin page
  • Added Limit per news feed
  • Added Get News Now button
  • and some other stuff :?
To upgrade from 0.9.4 BETA...
  • ALTER TABLE phpbb_newsfeeds ADD news_name VARCHAR(60);
  • ALTER TABLE phpbb_newsfeeds ADD news_limit SMALLINT(5) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL;
  • ALTER TABLE phpbb_newsfeeds ADD news_active TINYINT(1) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '1' NOT NULL;
  • ALTER TABLE phpbb_newsfeeds ADD include_channel TINYINT(1) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL;
  • ALTER TABLE phpbb_newsfeeds ADD include_image TINYINT(1) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL;
  • DELETE FROM phpbb_config where config_name='news_limit';
  • replace news_insert.php
  • replace functions_news.php
  • replace admin_newsfeeds.php
  • replace newsfeeds_body.tpl
  • and replace all the $lang bits in lang_admin.php
and i think that should be it. :wink:

I was thinking, maybe for windows users you could make a batch file that executes the script locally. Like instead of trying to make it go through the browser and what not, you could use the php.exe or php-cli.exe to run the script. I'm trying to figure out a way to do this and I'll get back to you if I succeed on it...

It would be very good if you could get that to work. I'll be very interested to konw the results.

Cheers!

Woo Hoo! I don't know why I didn't think of this before last night :lol:

Anyways I got the news_insert.php to execute locally and insert news into the board! Basically all I did was make a .bat file and have it to the following:
C:\php\php.exe -q C:\path\to\script.php

that would be inside the .bat, then just execute the .bat and the command prompt should pop up for maybe 5 seconds or so, check your forums and it should have the latest news inserted and ready to go.

I figure you can just have windows scheduler run the .bat for you whenever and it should work, I'll test that next (just wanted to get the .bat file working first)...

Now updated to version 0.9.6 BETA

Includes some small changes to the admin page as well as making it easymod comliant. :)

To update from earlier version...
  • Upload All files (includes 1 new file - lang_admin_find.php)
  • Remove all FIND MOD entries from lang_admin.php
If there are no problems with this version then i'll be uploading it to the mods database for validation very shortly.

I'm currently working on an RSS output mod to compliment it which will enable you to setup individual forums to be output as rss newsfeeds. Watch this space ;)

Got it, will install in about a month (when my site is ready and on a new host) right now I'm building my site on lycos and can't run a chron job.

This looks like one of the best mods out there!

You can install it without the need for a cron job. It just means you will have to manually run the insert news script which can be done from the admin panel by clicking the 'Get News Now' button.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

But i'm also holding off on all database editing mods to make the transfer to the new host easier.

In any case there is no doubt in my mind that I'll use this MOD.

I'd like to learn how to create my own newsfeeds based off of phpbb though. Maybe some of the syndication mods I've seen do that. Dunno.
