Slow Forum

Post by ABA Boxing »

My forum loads so slow, other members are telling me that it takes ages for pages to load.

http://www.ababoxing.com/forum/

Some people are having trouble staying logged in also. While i stay logged in all the time.

One thing i was unsure about when installing was the database type, i left it at mySQL 3.x it is actually mySQL 4.x

How can i change this and will it make a difference to the speed or other problems i have got?

Any help on the speed problem.

Thanks

Talk with your host, but first, you can try:

1) Activate GZIP Compression in ACP (General Category -> Configuration).
2) Install Extreme Styles MOD

Have you some MOD installed?

It looks basic ... shouldn't be slow ... unless you have some mod I don't see ...

Go into your admin area and up your cookie time ...

Good luck 8)

The only mod i have installed is the anti spam bot mod when you register.

What about the mysql version does this make a difference? should i try to change it from mySQL 3.x as it should be mySQL 4.x

Since you have a basic phpbb and almost zero graphics ... my next guess would be your host is an overseller, &/or the server is *poop* ...

all you have to do to change the mysql version, is edit the config.php file and change mysql to mysql4

don't know if this will help you , but that is how you do it.

I was hosted with 1&1 about a year ago and sometimes it took up to 3 minutes (yes 3 minutes) to load a single page, other times it was okay. You may want to consider moving hosts if you don't find anything else at fault.

I, on the other hand, have been with 1and1 for 3 years and have experienced no problems.

Have you tried contacting 1and1's support department and filing a support ticket? Ask for level 2 support if you need to.

I used them and had so many issues, including being slow and site down all the time :x

I can't say their name without adding very unladylike words

I guess your experience is determined by which of their servers you happen to get on ...
