I'm surprised this isn't a quick and easy thing ... still can't find it, I'm sure it's right there, one of those "if it was a snake it would have bit me" things ... anyone know?

what do you mean table?
do you mean the SQL that selects the author from the database, or the table that displays it?

what you are saying is not making much sense. please try to explain , in detail, exactly what you are trying to do. then we can help you do it.

if you are after changing the poster of a post you will need to change the poster_id in the phpbb_posts database table to the user id of the user you wish the post to be owned by for the post in question. Also if its a new topic post you will have to do the same for the topic_poster column in the phpbb_topics database table

Saawwrry for confusing you ... here's the long version ...

I merged posts from one board to our new one ...
When I merged them, all of the posts by side-arm now show the Author as Teed213 ...

Peek at this page >
http://www.teedsters.com/213/viewforum. ... start=1650
... excuse the colors, I'm playing with them today.

Now, open any message on that page ... you'll see that they are actually written by side-arm, not Teed213 ...

So I want to change the Author back to side-arm, but I can't seem to find where that Author part is generated ... any ideas?

Hope I made that clearer 8)

The poster id is correct for these messages ... it's only the Author on the viewtopic pages that are messed up ...

the posts are tied to the author by the user_id, so sidearms user_id was the same as Teed's on the other board, so this now means that side-arm is the user with the user_id which is the poster of these posts. You can not just merge posts in the way it sounds like you have.

I'm guess I'm going to give up :(

If you open up a message ... you'll see side-arm is showing as the author ... it's only on the viewforum page that it's messed up ...

Teed213's posts are fine after the merge ... both guys can post on the new board with the Author showing correctly ... it's only the merged posts by side-arm that were effected ... ???!

I've spent too many hours trying to figure it out ... if I ever decide to figure it out again and find a solution, I'll make sure to post it ...

Thank you for your time ...

maybe he means the topics rather then posts (which is what i think you mean when you talk about viewforum)

i think in phpbb_topics the column is called topic_poster which works on teh same principle as the posts (it reflects the user_id's)

To figure out what I'm talking about, peek at this page >
http://www.teedsters.com/213/viewforum. ... start=1650 ... you'll see Teed213 listed as the author of the messages ... but when you click the message, you'll see it was written by side-arm ...

I've been going bonkers trying to figure out why the author is screwy, but the message view is right ... it did not occur to anyone else's messages ...

Oh well, I'm going to leave it as one of those mysteries of cyber space

Well if you want side-arm to be the author try to run this through phpMyadmin:

Code: Select all

UPDATE phpbb_topics
SET topic_poster = 4
WHERE topic_id IN
( SELECT t.topic_id
FROM phpbb_topics t, phpbb_posts p
WHERE p.post_id = t.topic_first_post_id
AND t.topic_poster != p.poster_id )
take a backup of your database first (cause i dont have the slightest clue as to how this will work). also you'll need to change the phpbb_ prefix to your table prefix
