I'm awaiting word from olpa.

I'm back.

What's acharabia said is correct, I'm just going to repeat him.

Yes, you should edit all the files "profile_add_body.tpl" in all the templates.
just want to know why I can't delete the 2 default questions. I have deleted them, it even tells me they are deleted but when I test the register it asks those questions!

It can't be because it can't be.

But I know that impossible things happen.

It might be possible that the default questions were added several times using "db_update.php". Due to technical tricks, the mod deletes only one instance of a question at once. Try to update database several times.

I should accept to 50 E-mail about same issue?!?!

It's sma-a-a-a-ll incentive to become a registered user (or to open an editor and correct the code a bit :twisted:).

And it's nothing comparing to more than 1000 notifications from Links Rejector, which I get from one my forum.

Beyond any doubt, this is THE most valuable mod I have installed.
I was getting six, seven, eight attempts to register a day, that I had to keep deleting.
Since I installed this mod, I've just had e-mail notifications, and not a single one has got through.
Superb!

EEKS! I'm not sure what to do with all those Chinese looking characters, but I will do my best! Thank you for this modification. It looks like it could be fun to make up the questions. I've seen questions on forum registrations in the past.
example:
are you a bot?
are you a human?
Stuff like that.
Anyhow! Thank you for a great idea and free release!

are you a bot?
are you a human?

By the way, I'm not sure that these questions are the best. Yes/no questions are so popular, that I expect a new generation of spam bots will pass the questions.

For better questions, read the discussion.

Mod instructions for usercp_register.php

Code: Select all

#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#
	$template->assign_vars(array(
		'USERNAME' => isset($username) ? $username : '',
		'CUR_PASSWORD' => isset($cur_password) ? $cur_password : '',

The closest i can find is

Code: Select all

	$template->assign_vars(array(
		'USERNAME' => $username,
		'CUR_PASSWORD' => $cur_password,
This doesn't look enough the same for me, but is this what i should be replacing?

I installed the MOD via easyMOD and everything seems to be working, however I cannot edit my profile signature now unless I am logged in as admin.

These are the only fields I can see when I go to edit the profile:

Textual Confirmation was developed with "edit profile" in mind. I've rechecked Textual Confirmation on a vanilla 2.0.21 and 2.0.22 boards, and changing the signatures works fine. Therefore, I think the problem is in some other mod.

Great MOD!

I have a couple of boards I look after and like others have the Spam app problems. One of the boards is heavily modded by me and makes use of a number of custom fields for the apps. I had started modifying prior to realizing that there was a standard for MOD's and used my own documentation methods and so upgrading the board is a real pain for me now.
Since June 2006 I have received 634 Spam apps at about 8-10 a day now.

After playing with some CAPTCHAS, and disabling website links. I made some of the Gamer specific App fields mandatory on the App, then I got a few of these apps from an enterprising fellow in Germany.
Hello, Member Admins for Soulbound Home

"LondaColours", using IP address 84.19.xxx.xxx has just applied at "Soulbound Home's" bulletin board
"LondaColours's" email address is xxx@yandex.ru

"LondaColours" was reffered to us by "YEEC4S"
"LondaColours" is currently interested in the game "YEEC4S".

You can check the details of this user, before approving them using the following links:
On the users BB profile http://soul-bound.com/phpBB2/profile.ph ... file&u=xxx
On the SB member list: http://soul-bound.com/sbadmin/xxx.php?link=xxx

I "xxx"'d out some info out of the quote, but the custom fields on the app

"LondaColours" was reffered to us by "YEEC4S"
"LondaColours" is currently interested in the game "YEEC4S".

As these were filled in (although nonsensicle) that was when I realized I needed a Question answer type filter. So I started to build one.

Then I figured I would maybe need to change the questions easily, to handle a heuristic bot.

hmm, an admin link would be a good thing I figure. Time for a bit of Googling and I am not sure how but last night I ended up at http://bbspam.com/ :roll:

I am glad I did, Textual Confirmation was EXaCTLY what I wanted, I figured it is the only really viable way to control SpamBots.

3 minutes later My test site was happy, 2 minutes and the Soul-bound site was MODDED. 25 minutes later I got my first Reject. (at this moment the count is 8 ) I scrapped my previous efforts at writing this type of MOD, and am going to update the rest of the themes.

From a link on http://bbspam.com/ I ended up back here.

Anyhow, my forum is a 2.0.16 and a bit (almost current) I had no trouble with the Mod.

Yes that is the correct code to change, I had no problem with it, but as suggested you should update your board anyway.
----

Suggestions:
I think in the admin interface a method to remove the Spam app notification might be a good idea, as after a bit many folks won't really care enough to see how many feeble attempts to spam there sites are made :)
----

The idea of a SPAM dbase is one I like and although it is easy enough to disable I am keeping it up, but I intend to remove the notice.
You are using the COMMUNITY EDITION of Textual Confirmation. This
message is also SENT TO THE COMMUNITY SPAM DATABASE. If you don't
like it, buy the business edition license:

I figure for $36.?? CDN what the heck, it has already saved me a wack of time, and Textual confirmation was what I was trying to make. Yes I voted it as a Top mod, but I also bought it.
Thank you for submitting your order for bbAntiSpam Textual Confirmation for phpBB-Full Version using Plimus.

Plimus actually phoned me to confirm the order, rather nice of them.

Happy New Year :0

Hi Tony!

Thank you for the story, it's always pleasant to know that bbAntiSpam really helps.
3 minutes later My test site was happy, 2 minutes and the Soul-bound site was MODDED. 25 minutes later I got my first Reject. (at this moment the count is 8 ) I scrapped my previous efforts at writing this type of MOD, and am going to update the rest of the themes.

Very nice! I tried to make Textual Confirmation as easy as possible to install, and it seems it's so.
Anyhow, my forum is a 2.0.16 and a bit (almost current) I had no trouble with the Mod.

I think you shouldn't expect problems from the Mod. However, you must, you really must upgrade your board. Crackers found serious vulnerabilities in the old versions of phpBB.
I think in the admin interface a method to remove the Spam app notification might be a good idea, as after a bit many folks won't really care enough to see how many feeble attempts to spam there sites are made

I'm going to play a bit with it. However, sending the notifications proved to be useful for me. For example, you noticed you can donate to me :-)
Yes I voted it as a Top mod, but I also bought it.

Thanks a lot! It's a great incentive to improve anti-spam mods!

Happy New Year!
