EXCELLENT MOD!!! I registered for phpbb forums just now, and just to thank the author of this mod and to vote excellent!!!

And to those people who don't know a lot about mod installation... This is extremely easy to install: I just used easy mod, and though I have a totally different template from Subsilver, easymod did everything for me, and I didnt need to do anything manually - though some said manual edits are necessary for users of other templates.

Thanks again! :D

I totally agree. Thank you so much, this MOD works like a charm.

Just installed it on my forum Tazzu yesterday.

Installation was easy - even manually it was a breeze.

Over a dozen email notifications of spam bot registration attempts in less than 8 hours!

Thanks so much for this valuable MOD. It will save me countless hours a week deleting spam bot registrations.

Happy New Year to all! :D

By the way, I'm not sure that these questions are the best. Yes/no questions are so popular, that I expect a new generation of spam bots will pass the questions.

For better questions, read the discussion.

I had seen this used on zoints profile I think? But I really like the suggestion of a forum passcode that's listed in the discussion you directed me to. This seems very secure!! Nice work and great Idea :)

I'm putting this on my forum today if I get the time. This is a very time consuming thing in general (not this particular mod), but when you have more time than money. Well it's very appreciating to have the PHPBB group.

I'm another user that registered for the forums just to say THANK YOU! Some days I was spending 15-20 minutes deleting spam registrations even with the visual confirmation enabled. This mod so far has caught them all. :D

My recommendations:
* the best: wait for a new version of Textual Confirmation,
* install the mod Links Rejector,
* install Anti Bot Question Hack.

Brilliant

Post by haggis99 » Fri Jan 05, 2007 6:40 pm

My forum was only getting 7 or 8 spambot registrations a week, but I decided to install Textual Confirmation as the number was slowly increasing.

2 days later I get emails telling me of 16 failed attempts to register by a spammer with a porn site. Thats 16 users I don't have to go and delete.

3 cheers for olpa!

:D :D :D

I have a little problem here; I installed the mod, but I have the Zed-theme instead of SubSilver, so I edited the Zed-files instead of SubSilver. But apparently something went wrong; everything is working: the admin-panel, the q&a-field in the register-form, the SQL, etc. But, when I register and fillout a wrong answer, I still get registered? What might've gone wrong?

*edit* board is at www.basstalk.be

I think this question would be more accurate: what file takes care of the "blocking" of a registering user when the answer is wrong? :)

Not sure if this will help...

I installed a MOD a while back and found it didn't function properly.

I went back and opened the install.txt file and went over the installation and coding again - page by page... very carefully.

I found that I'd made very simple mistake - forgot a " } "

Take 15 minutes and do this... you'll probably find it was as simple as that, and then you'll be on your way.

Keep us in the loop. :)

ok, I'll check the code again for missing {'s and }'s tomorrow, thanks already! :)
