The Prune forums area was another thing I've been looking at for setting up automation, and actually looks very likely as the way to go.

Once you start looking at deleting already registered users there are a ton of new things that need to be looked at: do you want their posts deleted also? Do certain people/groups have immunity from this?

I'm not against looking at this type of addition to the mod, but it will be a very large expansion onto the basic setup of how the mod works. This would basically turn it into a "prune all types of users under different situations" mod. I'm going to look at finishing automation first, then I'll look beyond that.

I have an update to the mod in testing right now, it does not cover the automation addition, but is a redo of the method of deleting users to more fully remove them from the database and to support some other features to be put in the automation release (listing of users deleted and other information).
I hope to release this update at the beginning of next week to the mod team.

Can't wait for the update. Already installed this a couple weeks ago and it's a great feature to have.

it definitely helps.

i'm not sure about others, but over at vampteam.com, many of the spam accounts activate their account (image verification is enabled).

i suppose modifying the account activation process would help. I certainly must look into this sometime.

Hello,
IMO the best method for account activation: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=372903

Hello,
I have installed 1.1.0.

Does this version offer autoprunning by now?

I'm thinking about using this MOD for following project: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=492864

But I have to add following functions too:
- delete zero posters (uses post count and registration timestamp)
- delete inactive users (uses last login, excluding of specified user groups)

Version 2.0.0 (in current development) will have the auto prune function. Version 1.2.0 (still in mod team review) sets up for the 2.0 release.
You may distribute the mod as long as all copyright and existing information is left in the code. Actually I encourage people to bundle it in this fashion to make it and other mods work together to make forums more usable. I would suggest waiting for 1.2.0 to be posted before you consider bundling it since that revision has better overall delete functionality.

Update: automation version of this mod is still in dev. Sorry for the delay guys, I'm deep in a few projects. I was hoping the 1.2.0 version would be validated by now....I guess they have a ton of stuff going on.

Anyway, My current highest priority project is almost done, so I will finish this update off right after that.

I would like to suggest as well including an option to delete inactive users for X amount of months or years regardless of their post count, i.e. purge all users that have logged in for 2-years, etc.

Are any functions set to do something on a periodic basis without user input?

yes, forum pruning uses automation. maybe looking at the script that runs that may help you out here? just an idea... i cant code well myself, so i'll leave well alone. thanks

mod sounds good though.

I'm not a php coder so just to make things simple can you show me how to call your script from within user registration? I'm thinking I'd like it at the end of the registration process, after submit and before the next page is drawn.

I want to see the spammers do some work for a change by cleaning up their own mess.

I just installed your mod on my forums, and I think it's fantastic!
