Stramge happening when downloading some mods

Post by The Dark One »

Hi everyone

I am setting up a forum using phpbb 2 and have successfuly downloaded a few of the mods from this site but something strange has happened when I download the copyright and easy bot stopper mods. Instead of downloading as zip files they want to download as MPEG files. Am I missing something here? :?

It's windows. Seen that lately with files that are labeled as .mod. Windows wants them to be media player files.

Right click and choose save as, or remove the association from windows.

Thanks.

Just a guess but are they .mod files rather than .txt? If so just download them anyway. They are only text files. You can open them with wordpad/notepad.

If it is actually trying to play the files rather than download them, right cliock on the link and select "Save Target As..."

It does try to play them but media player then says unknown file type. I have tried to save as txt document but when I upload using ftp it still shows as MPEG and isnt picked up by the mod installer in admin cp.

It sounds like you are running Easymod. You need to ask for support for that from where you got it.

Right click the file and choose properties.
At the top it says you can choose the application to open it with. Select that and choose wordpad (c:/program files/windowsNT/accessories/wordpad.exe) then it should be identified ok as a text file.

1) Windows shows it as an mpeg, the server will see it correctly as long as the extension is still .mod

2) Not all mods are EasyMod compatible, so EasyMod will not see them. They must be installed by hand

3) As I said earlier, you need to change the file association in Windows to get media player to stop trying to open .mod files. Follow Kevin Clarks advice above to do this.
