Changing logo link - Please help urgently

Post by alastair1978 »

I have just upgraded to phpbb 3 and can not change my top right hang logo to link back to my webpage. The overall_header file seems to be different. I know how to change the logo, just not the link.

Please help as I need my board to back online

Hi,

what's a "top right hang logo"? Can you provide a screenshot please?

Probably the problem is due to the overall_header.html. (And never forget to delete the cache after changing the template!)

Regards
Wolfgang

Templates > Style > File: "overall_header.html":

In the Raw HTML Template Editor textarea, click anywhere, and press the Page Down key about five times (assuming you're using the default style) and look for the following line:

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_INDEX}" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
If you're not seeing that line, look in the "site-description" division. It should be there.

From there, edit the URI (href) value to suit your needs.

This is what you see in the Raw HTML Template Editor:

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_INDEX}" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
This is how links are formed:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.domain.com/">
These are constants:

Code: Select all

{U_INDEX}
{L_INDEX}
{SITE_LOGO_IMG}
Constants are associated with specific values in a reference file:

Code: Select all

{U_INDEX} = "Forum URI"
{L_INDEX} = "Name of Forum URI"
{SITE_LOGO_IMG} = "<img src='Forum Logo' width='image width' height='image height' />"
When a page with constants is parsed, the browser uses the values associated with the constants to display the page, so in the source you would see something like this:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.domain.com/forums/" title="Forum Index" id="logo"><img src="http://www.igda-sandiego.org/forums/styles/prosilver/imageset/site_logo.gif" width="256" height="85" /></a>
If you remove a constant, that constant will no longer be parsed and the browser will not use its value. So it stands to reason that if you replace a constant with a value, that value will be used instead. I already told you what to do to change the logo's link. Edit the URI (href) value.

From:

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_INDEX}" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
To:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.domain.com/" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
Later on, you can learn how to create and edit constants to suit your needs, so that the modifications you make to your installation of phpBB will be maintainable.

How to change the logo image and logo link

Post by azw »

HOW TO CHANGE LOGO IMAGE

There's a built-in feature that allows you to change the main logo in the ACP.

First, upload your new logo image to the styles/prosilver/imageset folder on your server.

In the forum's ACP, under the "Styles" tab, click on "Imagesets" in the left hand navigation column. Select "Main logo", then choose the image to be used in the dropdown "Image" box. If necessary, select "Include dimensions" and change the dimensions, too.

To see your changes, you may need to "Purge the cache", which is an option under the "General" tab. (I'm not sure about that.)

You can also edit the templates (like overall_header.html) using a feature in the "Styles" tab, going to the "Templates" option found in the left side navigation.

HOW TO CHANGE LOGO LINK

Open:
/styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.html

Find ~line 102:

Code: Select all

			<div id="site-description">
				<a href="{U_INDEX}" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
Replace with:

Code: Select all

			<div id="site-description">
				<a href="/" title="{HOME_PAGE_OF_MAIN_SITE}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
Note: The change above which replaces "{U_INDEX}" with "/" assumes that you want the link to go to http://www.my_site.com. That might be the case if your forum is located in a folder like: http://www.my_site.com/forum, or in a subdomain, like: http://forum.my_site.com
You could put whatever URL you want instead of "/".

Save & close

Open:
/language/en/common.php

Find ~line 811:

Code: Select all

));
Before, add something like:

Code: Select all

	'HOME_PAGE_OF_MAIN_SITE' => 'Go to home page of main site',

Save & close

Open:
/includes/functions.php

Find ~line 4144:

Code: Select all

		'L_INDEX'			=> $user->lang['FORUM_INDEX'],
After, add:

Code: Select all

		'HOME_PAGE_OF_MAIN_SITE'			=> $user->lang['HOME_PAGE_OF_MAIN_SITE'],

Save & close

Upload all of these files to the server, and "Purge the cache", as described above.

What file do the constants reference?

I would like to create a new constant specifically a constant for a slogan in the overall_header.html.

I think it would be better to start a new topic for your problem. you are posting in a topic that was started 5 years ago and the files in phpbb are not the same as they were then.

so, please start a new topic and go ahead and Please fill out the Support Request Template Generator and post it back here to enable us to assist you better.

thanks,
robert
