READ ME FIRST - Hard to Use

First, thanks for these great boards.
And thanks for the READ ME FIRST section.

BUT - while trying to locate some postings, I find that this section has lots of postings that are no longer of any value -mostly about things like "server was down last night".

Might make this section more user friendly if they were deleted?

Are you referring to a specific topic or forum? If you want us to understand what you are suggesting and actually do something about it, you need to be a bit more specific.

I am not sure what you mean by "This section"
If you mean the "Read me first" section then I am sure that there is a good reason for them being left in there. If you mean this forum called "General Discussion" that you have posted into then we do try to make time to remove locked topics that are more than 24 hours old (which is just what I was going to do when I spotted your post)
There is so much activity on this site that topics quickly fall off the bottom of the 1st page.
If you could perhaps explain more carefully exactly what you mean.

if i may add, i think hey has a point. most of the posts in there are "server was down" or "phpbb3 rc4 release" or some other post that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months. maybe make forum for the important stuff that will be useful all the time and then keep the stuff that will only be useful a a few weeks/months in another forum (all under the "General" catefory).

It's a public archive.

All the announcements are dated, and items which continue to be of use are stickied/announced.

You read the stickies/announcements, and any recent 'standard' topics that are of any relevance.

Sorry - I did not fully explain.

I am taking about the section where you want people to read BEFORE POSTING.

ANNOUNCEMENTS - Read Me First Before Posting Anywhere

Anyway, one would think this a somewhat important part of the board where important information is posted that people should read.

So, in trying to find some information instead of posting a new question, I find the site littered with postings of no value making it hard to find the important information. The fact that the message has a date is of little value. It only means something to regular users. Someone new coming along, well.... There were at least 5 postings of no value (server down, etc)

Just an observation.

"Read Me First Before Posting Anywhere" doesn't mean you should read all the topics in that forum, but I see how it could be confusing.
