what are you waiting for??!!! release it please
I'm hesitant to put any more MODs in the database, as it can be quite frustrating. It takes forever to get approved, and then once approved it takes forever to approve any updates, and they won't even alert users that a new version is available, so users keep downloading an out-of-date version and then I get a bunch of emails about problems and such that have already been fixed. It's just annoying, and they don't seem to have any desire to fix the system. But then, this MOD is so simple I doubt it'll ever need to be updated, so perhaps I will......
Do you know how many work it is to validate a MOD, especially when the author submit them each time again when its in the queue just?
Feedback on our MODDB can be posted in the correct topic, and untill know we have added nearly ever feature.
Yeah, I can easily understand how much work it is to validate a MOD. Just installing them is a pain, but you have to do much more than that; you also have to go through every line of code to understand how it all works together, looking for bugs, inefficiencies, and security flaws. I'm not complaining about how long it takes, as that's completely understandable.
The flaw in the system is with updating MODs, both for updating approved MODs and for updating MODs that are still in the queue. That system needs to be fixed. For MODs that have already been approved, I suggested in the
Modifications Database Feedback forum that if a user submits an updated version, then there could be a notice alerting people that an updated version has been submitted but has not yet been approved. At least this would alert people that there is an updated version which may contain bug fixes, which gives them the opportunity check out the release notes and decide which version they want to use. But the response I got made it seem like that wasn't going to happen. And I doubt you'd let me change that standard security disclaimer contained in the installation instructions so I could tell people to check my site instead of the official phpbb database.
For MODs that are already in the queue, you say that we shouldn't submit updates until it is actually approved or denied. I understand this to be because you have to first validate the MOD, and then later move on to the actual approval process, so submitting updates that have been validated but not gone through the approval process means you have to then validate again. I assume validation means using the mEAL Automated Check? If this is true, could it not be automated so you don't have to manually validate every submission? When submitted, couldn't a script automatically unpack and validate?
