GoDaddy Acting Dumb - Why Won't it Connect!

Post by Baby Boy » Sun Oct 21, 2007 6:39 pm

I am trying to install a pre-modded forum that I modded for someone and I am 1000000% sure that everything was transferred from my servers to GoDaddy's right as I've done it before. BUT, it is saying it cannot connect to the database, even though all the database information in the configuration file is correct.

What could possibly be wrong, check the site out at http://www.diyalcohol.com/forum/

You should first try installing a vanilla version of phpBB to see if that works. If it does then you know it's a problem with your version. If it still doesn't work then contact GoDaddy and ask for help. Maybe they told you the wrong db info to use.

Not necessarily. GoDaddy has very poor support for phpBB even with a Linux server plan....

Alright, so what is the best advice I should give this client I did website work for. They have the Windows server on GoDaddy and they have the most complicated form of CHMODDING to be honest. Should I tell them to find a new host or something?

Oh yeah definitely tell them to either change to the Linux plan (even then no guarantees) or get a better host. Some recommendations at http://www.webhostingtalk.com

it barely works correctly on the linux servers.

Check out [link removed] to see if you like their hosting plans and prices. They have pretty good service. And no, I don't work for them.
