Sorry, i don't think I'll be doing this (my coding time for new mods or new add-ons - limited anyway since I'm not a coder by profession - is now being spent on phpbb3). But it wouldn't be tooo hard if someone else felt like taking a crack at it.

Actually, my board members have decided that they don't really miss that link after all now that they have the 'View Unread Posts' link and Unread posts that STAY Unread instead. But if I ever do reinstall the add-on I'll be sure to let you know if that fix works. Thanks for your prompt response anyway.

This is all a good way to make a simple subject very convoluted.

I have two boards, one with the original style of flags, the other with the modified flags. Neither system works very well for all users. The situation is -

I, as the board admin, want to see notification of all the posts which I haven't read. This is because no matter when I last checked the board, I have an obligation to keep up with what's happening everywhere if I am going to do a competent job as board admin. So I should at least glance at whatever's been posted anywhere on the board.

On the other hand, my members are simply not interested in certain topics and certain threads within topics. When they check in they don't want to see what looks like a bunch of new posts, but are really just posts they ignored the last time. Telling them that they can hit the "mark all posts read" button doesn't really address the problem, as by then it's too late for "mark all posts read" to do the job which originally was done automatically.

So the needs of members and admins are different. Both could be accommodated by making the two modes switchable. The two modes are the original type of flag, stored in cookies, and the modified type of flag, stored in the database (is that right?). I would select one mode in the CP, and I imagine most of my members would select the other.

Worrying about flags for guests is a needless complication. I'm really only concerned about usefulness to my members and myself.

The Mark all posts as read button is indeed exactly what happens in a normal phpBB board when you log off and/or close your browser window and/or have something crash on you. With the one exception that the user now has full control over when that is done - if they lose unread posts, it is their own fault, not the board's.

No, the official mod does not have that because you and I both feel the way that works is so counterintuitive that users should be dissuaded from it. But you are correct taht we worked it all out...somewhere in the last few pages of this topic, I posted code on how you would give each user the option to decide for himself whether to show that extra link allowing him to use the 'classic' view new posts.

Has anyone successfully installed this mod with the AcidTechGreen Template? Its the template i need and the only issue i have is in the templates/subSilver/index_body.tpl file. The things i am to look for are not there and I dont know enuf to be able to install this mod without some help cause I dont understand the php scripting language.

So you must have modded AcidTechGreen with some change. If you post your index_body.tpl file between code tags and tell me exactly what FIND line you are having trouble with I'll take a look and see if I can figure out how to adopt the mod to your template.

Just briefly coming back to those people who want both the standard "new posts" feature as well as the full list of unread topics, it may be an idea to call the link to the full list of unread posts "unread posts" and add that link (instead of replacing the new posts link), so you have both "new posts" and "unread posts" links on your index. The code has already been given in the past few pages, the link from "new posts" should be ...?search_id=newposts&classic=1 and the link from "unread posts" should be ...?search_id=newposts.
In this way I think it would be less confusing for people, and fairly clear what each link means and does. What do you think asinshesq?

If you take a look at the actual code I gave in the long post where I give the three different alternatives, you will see that the language entries for the links are:

The first FIND line you asked about appears in line 1220 of the viewtopic.php file you posted, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say you can't find it. Tqake a look at 1220 of the file you posted and let me know if you see it now.

And the second FIND line you asked about is added by this mod (by the FIND and AFTER, ADD that you said you couldn't find).
