As far as the regular login, are you meaning that the username and password are not prefilled or that after you check the box you are not kept logged in when you visit again?
Hello Darcie,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am referring to the regular login. When I sign on and check the box, then spend some time at the board, then log off and revisit the board, the username and password are not filled in and I need to check the box again. (note: I just tried this at the phpbb board and also came back to the username and password not filled in)

As for my own board:

the path is http://www.naturallivingforums.com/forums/phpBB3

Cookie settings:

cookie domain: .naturallivingforums.com
cookie name: cookie
cookie path: /forums/phpBB3
cookie secure: disabled

The reason I asked where in the ACP I can set to allow auto logins is someone in another post in this thread asked if I had set "allow auto logins" in my ACP. I can't seem to locate where to do this.

Many thanks for your help.

General tab on ACP -> Security Settings -> Allow Persistant Logins

One other thing I noticed...you said
When I sign on and check the box, then spend some time at the board, then log off and revisit the board, the username and password are not filled in and I need to check the box again
When you click logout the cookie is normally destroyed and you have to login again next visit. To persist your login cookie simply exit the browser without logging out.

Thanks Dan - some people just don't get the concept

Been there, done that, been bitten by it many times. ;)

Maybe we should have a popup when auto login is checked that says "To be logged in automatically next visit, DO NOT log out when leaving."

Of course for those users with a memory like mine, it would be forgotten by the time the user left the forum.

Too funny Dan - I don't remember, but I think I have the same memory issues  It does seem a little strange that they put that checkbox there since it doesn't seem to change anything - or am I still confused??

Anyhoo - thanks for your help. On to the next problem...

Hello

I have "allow persistent logins" switched to yes, but I and other users still have to log in each time.

I remember I had this problem when I installed PHPBB2 all that time ago and was fixed by Auto Cookies. Is there an Auto Cookies for PHPBB3?

Thanks

Hi there...

So, if i have a forum with multiple domain names - what settings do i need or this future is not supported by the engine?

e.g.

http://olife.betsol.ru and http://o-life.betsol.ru

@EdLondon: Auto Cookies has not been made for phpBB3, but we can try and troubleshoot yours here.

@ZeroCool.: You will have trouble with cookies over multiple domains. It might be a better idea in your case to keep just the one and redirect from the other.

Question, if we use phpBB on an internal lan and do not use the FQDN (.domain.com), how can I enable automatic logins? It works fine if I use the FQDN, but I'd like to make it easier for my internal users to find the board by simply using the hostname. ie http://host/phpBB3 instead of http://host.domain.com/phpBB3
Thanks!

I have the same problem with automatic login not working. Just installed phpbb3 for the first time. I did not have this problem with phpbb2. Allow persistent logins is set to yes. I never actively log out, yet each day when I go to the board, I have to log in anew. I am using safari 3.0.4 and cookies are set to be accepted for sites I navigate to.

In fact, I thought that the last time I visted this forum, I'd chosen to be automatically logged in, but I had to log in again just now. I'm not 100% sure I checked it last time though. I checked it this time, so if I have to log in again tomorrow, I'll let you know.

Same here. I have my forum cookie set as recommended in this thread, cleared my cookies on my browsers, renamed the phpbb3 cookie, and the issue still persists in both FireFox and IE. Every time you log-in after checking the "Log me on automatically each visit " box, close the browser (note: we are not using the "log out" button), then open a new session and hit the page, the box is no longer checked and you have to log in all over again. Its really making my natives restless...

I am also having this problem at http://aotplaza.hostagig.com and have checked all of the things you mention. However, for me, it will sometimes log me out when I simply refresh the page - it's not just when I close the browser and go there again later! I've even added hostagig.com to my allowed cookies list (this clearly shouldn't be necessary) and it still logs me out. I've just tried changing the Persistent Login time from 0 days to 365 days. I'll report back if it fixes it!
