If the MOD is working correctly, it *should* be that the user can reset their proper default group in the User Control Panel (groups tab) and not have to worry about it again until the user gets another promotion.

I don't see how the MOD doesn't already do this. The grouping is based on the destination group, not the source group. So you create a new group with a 20 post minimum, and the users will gain access to the new forum.

The important item here is that they never leave the registered users group, because that could break some other functionality in phpBB

I didn't realise this, it's beginning to make sense now. It works with a vertical structure really, and it will work with my board to a large extent, certainly for the largest user-defined group. My board is a problem in that it isnt really vertical in many respects...

Users can be in any number of groups at the same time in phpBB.

Hey Jelly.

Any chance you could edit, or tell me how to edit the mod so that an added option would be to determine a person's inclusion in a group by the amount of time they've spent logged in on the forum?

I've got a some problem,
I installed the MOD and everything is working fine only I get this in my Manage Groups Panel:


I modified phpBB 2 enough that I was able to read the code somewhat,
But phpBB 3 has got me stumped.
I know this is a simple fix I just need to know what I did to the file to make this like this.

If a sudden wave of "I have free time" comes over me, possibly. It should be easy for other MOD authors to hook into the auto groups MOD, but they'd have to supply their own administration screens.

Civphp: I'm guessing there are some extra < or > in your acp_groups.html file.

Just thought I would stop by and let you know that my problem wasn't any thing that I did wrong, it was the editor that I was editing with.
I used Dreamweaver to edit all my files and it must have added in or subtracted some code or something because I use NotePad 2 and it works like a charm.

Many MOD authors will put an FAQ in the post so that users only have to read one post to solve common problems. Its a new feature of the MOD DB

Can you please explain with screenshots of phpBB v3.0 how to create a new group say "new". Every newly registered member should go in this group, they have achieved the post count of 20 posts only then they could enter certain topics and upgraded to normal registered group
