[ABD] Media Gallery

Post by Monty68 »

MOD Title: Media Gallery
MOD Description: Multimedia gallery mod for phpBB3
MOD Version: 0.0.1

Demo Board: http://phpbb.knightware.org.uk/mg_mod/gallery/index.php

Hi All,

I am extremly new to all this and after searching for a reasonable gallery mod for our web site found the
need to write my own, perhaps a task much bigger than I first thought but now have my first alpha online.

The mod provides a full album set-up identical to forums (categorys, parents etc.) with full permissions
again following the same format as the forum permssions system. Many options are configurable from
the ACP including normal filesize, image size, quota's etc. The front gallery index has an optional random
image display and a light include script to randomly select an item for display on a home page. Each album
can be configured to enable users to rate or add comments and will include support for personal albums
(although these are not fully complete yet).

As I said I am new to this so will try and get a downloadable MODX done as soon as possible but wanted
to gauge some valued input from the community and any other wish items you may have.

Development of this mod has now moved on quite considerably.
I have re-written a lot of the core code and improved performance in a number of areas.

Features:

Multiple album hierarchy with category’s and permissions system which mirrors phpBB3
Full ACP control of albums, gallery options and permissions
Albums support media categories
Images
Audio files
Video files
Documents
Binary (e.g. exe, zip)

Each media type/category can be enabled/disabled per album
Image files are resized on upload using either Imagemagick or GD
Automatic watermarking of images using either image or text (TTF support)
Monitor/track user access to albums through the Who is Online script
MCP – warnings, reports, move, delete, edit, approve uploads etc.
UCP – Create and manage users personal albums (controlled by ACP options)
Separate template layout for images/video depending on users browser/screen size
Random display of media items on gallery index page
Multiple file upload page
Import media from topic attachments
Batch import from hosted sub-directory
Media items can be rated and users can leave comments
Albums can be viewed in thumbnail or list mode, various sort options and user selectable items per page

Future Development

Upload/Download points system
Media players for audio and video files
Caption competition for images
Anything else I can think of!

Very nice work! :D I can't wait for a download to try it out. Are the permissions able to be set per category like the local forums permissions in phpbb or are they global permissions for every category.

Thanks :D

Album permissions work exactly the same way as for forums so you can set per album/local permissions.
One area which I may change is how the personal albums are created and inherit permissions; at the moment
you create a master album or album category which becomes the parent for a newly created users personal
album. However, once created you can move personal albums around/edit permissions on an album per
album basis using the ACP.

Forgot to mention that I am also adding an option to upload a thumbnail image for non image files
such as album covers for audio files etc.

I hope to get basic audio and video support ready in the next week or so so any further help
much appreciated.

I will also try and get a download available for people to try out as soon as I can.

When will this be out. My husband's site right now is the future nuke, since we have to get rid of the nuke, so I had already converted the nuke to the phpbb3. He has quite a few videos in his site now. This would be awesome.

I am trying to get something out in the next few weeks, currently I am creating the prosilver templates, fixing a few bugs etc. There will also be a proper demo site up soon which you can play with the features
etc. The issue for me at the moment is the time it will take to create the graphics I need to match the
styles and the MODX. Having never developed for phpBB3 before its all a bit new so may take me longer!

I also have pressure to complete our events system which at some point I may release here as well.

I have added some more features such as custome style for each album and support for Lightbox.

Yes and No!

In its basic form it will act as a picture gallery in a similar way, although I think mine has
more control over albums, structure and permissions etc. In its advanced form it will act
as a download manager and media player for uploaded content such as video and audio etc.

Well thats the intention anyway :D

I know there a lot of gallery type mods out there but none seemed to give me the features I was looking for.

i see :D

That i posted is a mod from this community with some changed by me ...
Maybe you can take some code from this community so you haven't to write all by yourself. ;)

However a Media gallery like you wrote in the first post i think will be a really great mod!

Thanks for that, I really hope to create something people will use and enjoy and I can give something
back to the community. I will be using as much as I can to add new features, got a huge list of things
and there is some great code from very talented developers on here!

I am already thinking/looking at using some code to enable the gallery to host media from
remote sites such as YouTube etc.

OK, I have set-up a new demo board, there are some screen shots of the admin stuff for the gallery
but not all features are working on here yet as I am developing the prosilver templates.
