Hello,

I have a slight installation problem I thought Id give it a shot posting here in case someone have some advice.

I've completed all the installation steps up to running the install_portal.php file. After clicking the link I assume it starts the process but after a few minutes I get a CGI Timeout error message: The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.

I did a quick Google search and apparently IIS servers have a default timeout setting of 5 minutes. As I am on a hosted service, this isn't something I have immediate access to alter. Is there anyway to by pass this? Any lines in the installation (checkups or the like) that I can comment out to minimize the run time?

[Edit: Running installation on portal version 1.2.2 on a phpbb 3.0.1]

Greatfull for any help/tips

Problem with installing the portal MOD

Post by kozata-xakep »

Dear phpbb friends,

Before 2 days I've decided to install an addon for my forum. Today im istalling it but made some misstakes

My questions are :

Where to paste the following code:

Code: Select all

Copy: root/.htaccess ( this from the portal folder)
To: .htaccess ( where do i have to paste that file ?)
Is the paste side the forum ?

Here's the same ?

Code: Select all

Copy: root/portal/block/index.html
        To: portal/block/index.html
Do I have to make a new folder called portal in the forum root ?
Sorry for the stupid questions but sometimes im turning off.....

Yeah, you copy .htaccess to root and copy the folders to root or make one or whatever you'd like.

yourstyle/template/portal/portal_body.html

move the block codes around.

All the answers can be found at the website for this mod. phpbb3portal.com me and other users have answered many questions there as the developers are too busy.

Hi.

I was wondering; How can I pull (for example), 100 topics from the forum I select, but only display 10 of them on one page? Then at the bottom of the first page, a link would appear to view the next 10 topics which have been pulled.

Also, how can I permalink my articles on the portal? When linking somebody to an article, if I send them an article link which is not permalinked then if a new article gets posted and pulled, the link I sent to a friend wouldn't be linking to the article I want as the article ID isn't assigned to a specific article, just the 5th article posted on the home page (if the article ID was 5).

The only solution I see for permalinking, is to reverse the article ID numbers (with the newest article ID NOT being 0, but being the X'th article posted. E.g if there were already 23 posted, the next article ID would be 24.)

Do you understand what I mean? Is there a way I can do the above? If not I'm going to be sticking to my wordpress - (which is all very nice, but I just love the phpbb portal integrated with my forums!) :)
