Blank Page Only :(

Post by ahayiroglu » Thu Aug 07, 2008 1:40 am

lHi,
A few weeks ago I've successfully upgraded my phpbb2 to phbbb3.0
Last week my server has done some configuration changes to make some other script work. I didnt realize that time but I want just to mention it here since it is the only thing I find reasonable, but I dont know how... since they only allowed to work php4 and 5 at the same time...
Anyway... Now I see just blank page when I try to access the forum. So I decided to upgrade it to latest relase since this might overcome the problem but nothing changed...
All I see when I try to access the forum is blank page with no error message and with no content either :(

What is your recommendation to overcome this un-errorness problem? :(

When you get a blank screen like that, there is often a helpful message or two in your Web Server Error Log. You may be able to look at the log through your Hosting Control Panel - if not you will need to ask your host to look for you.

You should post the error message here with a completed Support Request Template , if you need help with it, and also tell us if you are using a Custom Style, any MODS, and what you were editing, if anything, before the error occurred.

Remember to include a link to your forum, if you can :)

Well the links in those errors don't give me white pages - they give me HTTP404 Error messages, which usually indicate that files are missing or in the wrong place on the server.

http://www.freemailguide.com/forum/index.php does give me a blank page - if it's supposed to work too.

Have you asked your Host/Server Admin what is going on ?
Can you see that all the files are present and correct by FTP or your Control Panel ?

No - I didn't see that - there is no profile.php in a default install so I don't know where that is coming from.

If you'd filled in the Support Request Template earlier, then I wouldn't have to ask again ;)
Do you have any MODS installed ?

edit: I think somehow your old 2.x installation is involved in this riddle, I think 2.x used to have a profile.php

You or your host haven't mixed some files or folders up, have you ?

See that error message says:
referer: http://forum.freemailguide.com/profile. ... greed=true

is calling for

/home/freemail/public_html/forum/profile.php

They look like they could be different directories - maybe your old 2.x install is still there and a BOT tried to access it, creating this error ? But I'm guessing without more info about what directories your files are/were in and any redirection in place (eg for subdomains).

There's a chance that error has nothing to do with your current problem.

Tell us if your 2.x installation is still there, please.
And what folders you had 2.x and 3.x in ?

It might be worth temporarily renaming .htaccess too, to rule out any redirection problems in it.

Those profile.php calls are either spambots, or users trying to register from some outside phpBB2 link you have setup.

This one:

Code: Select all

[Thu Aug 07 04:38:05 2008] [error] [client 89.175.139.104] File does not exist: /home/freemail/public_html/forum/forum, referer: http://forum.freemailguide.com/forum/index.php
Indicates a probable script-path error. You have setup your forum from http://freemailguide.com/forum/ and you are trying to access it from http://forum.freemailguide.com/forum which is causing a script-path conflict.

That's what I thought they must be.

I thought of that too - but it WAS working, according to the OP

So maybe this all comes down to the server changes he says the host did, messing with path or folder names in some way - for it to happen, as he says it did, when he made no changes.

Possibly cached files?
Deleting everything from the cache folder except index.html and .htaccess via FTP couldn't hurt ;)
