Go to /language/en/email/ and edit the TXT files as needed. Depending on your registration settings, different files are used.

Do you have access to your board files or do you use a provider that does not allow you to edit any files?

You need to have access to the files in order to be able to edit the messages.

You need to have access to the files on your server. This is usually done from your local copy on your computer with either a stand-alone ftp client or the built-in ftp client in an html editor such as DreamWeaver or GoLive etc. Many other wordprocessing and other programmes have a built-in ftp client.

You can then either modify the files directly on the server, or modify your local copy and upload it to the server.

On some hostings, particularly those offering a 'free' phpBB forum (which is free anyway) , you may not have permission to access your forum files. These 'free' forums are often offered because they carry Google ads with the Google code already embedded in the forum pages.

Sorry to hijack the thread with a quick question - it is related.

If I edit the appropriate email txt files, can I stop the site sending people their passwords in emails.

Which files do I need to change - I'm thinking both the admin_ and user_ prefixed files.

It's not so bad for a forum generated replacement password, but sending the users their own password they just registered with sits very uneasy with me. Lots of users type in their standard password that they also use on their bank accounts, only to have emailed plain text to them!!

Thanks

OK caution went to the wind.

I just did a search/replace on all the files in the email directory and changed {PASSWORD} to ********

It's not emailing passwords any more !!

Just realised I've also changed the one that sends a new password if you've forgotten yours - must put that one back as it should be - oops!
