Instructions moving a Forum to another directory?

Post by thesolar »

Hello:

I am looking for assistance moving my phpBB 3 from one directory to another.

Is this just a matter of copying and moving the files to another directory or do I have to do some database backup/restore?

Here's what I tried to do:

I backed up my current forum. I created another installation of phpBB 3 in another directory and tried to restore using the backup I made, but it said "There are no items yet." to restore.

I also looked into php myadmin, but could not find clear instructions on how to use this tool.

Thanks for any help,

If all you want to do is change the directory on the same host (e.g. from myhost/phpbb3 to myhost/forum) then you only need to do two things:

1. ACP --> Server Settings --> Script Path --> Change to new directory

2. With a FTP program rename the directory to the new name.

Easy. :D

You need to use some sort of program to move the forum files from the root directory to the new directory. FTP is the the most common kind of program for doing that. I (and many others) use FileZilla.

I tried to move my site from root/phpbb to root/public_html and it appears I screwed it up. Just which files (index.html, etc.) should be where?

All the files and folders in /phpbb should be moved to /public_html. Have a look at the file structure of the Latest Version package.

and there is no such thing as root/public_html

public_html is root for your site.

so in reality what you had before was:

public_html/phpbb/all your phpbb files

what you want is;

public_html/all your phpbb files

I see that this is an old topic, but i have to ask the same question without seeming to be flogging a dead horse, so to speak.

Is it ok to use the blue cpanel's file manager to rename the directory: \public.html\forum\install to anything else? then, after that, what do i do next?

there is no need to rename the install directory.

please start a new topic and explain exactly what you are trying to do.

thanks,
robert
