Send e-mail to new members only

Post by Athlon101 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:38 pm

Hi Guys

Is there a way to send an e-mail to new members once they have authorised their registration.

My board is configured in acp so that when new user registers they get e-mail. They click link in e-mail to confirm registration. They get e-mail confirming that registration approved.

I would like to then send e-mail to these new members to welcome new member and tell them about some of the features of my site.

Is there a way to do this and does it address each recipient by name in th e-mail?

Unless you're collecting their names during registration, no there isn't a way to address them by name other than by username.

To do the rest of what you asked the easiest thing to do would be to edit language/lang_english/email/admin_welcome_activated.tpl and add the extra information you want to add.

Thanks for answer on this one DavidIQ

I have one other question, if I put links to certain pages on my site in the e-mail when the recipient opens the e-mail will they see a link or just a text showing the url but not as a click through link?

Reason I ask is that language/lang_english/email/admin_welcome_activated.tpl does not contain php or html so when i type url into the message in this file it just looks like plain text.

That's more dependant on the e-mail program being used and the e-mail provider. Outlook will interpret them as links. Not sure about other programs. phpBB I belive sends the e-mails as HTML.

No. Standard phpBB2 does not send emails in HTML format. They are plain text.

Then it's up to the program/e-mail provider/browser to interpret the URL as a clickable link. In Outlook when I get e-mails from phpBB2 forums they normally come in as clickable links.

Hi guys

I changed the text in language/lang_english/email/admin_welcome_activated.tpl however when I registered as test it does not seem to send this welcome e-mail. all I get is the e-mail to activate but once activated it does not send out the welcom e-mail. Is there a setting I need to change?

My mistake. I think it should have been user_welcome_inactive.tpl.

Hello,

I have a similar problem.

I have the board set up for the user to activate.

So the user gets the activation email from user_welcome_inactive.tpl

and when they click and activate, they should get another email right?

But no other email is sent in my test accounts.

What tpl file is in charge of the user welcome...I am assuming it is user_welcome.tpl right?

But for some reason that email is never sent out...What could wrong? Please advise.

Thanks all in advance. :)

nope, once the user activates, there is no other email sent out.

the user_welcome.tpl email is sent if you have activation set to none.
