Who has looked at what

Post by marksalehouse »

On V2 I installed an Admin Mod from this site which let Admin see who had looked at what topics. I cannot remember if it showed all members or if I had to click on a member name. Either way I would be interested in seeing what members are looking at.

This is mainly to find out what non posters are looking at to see if they can be gee'd up into posting. I do not have any of the old V2 Mods now so I cannot give details.

If anyone recognises this and can point me to a V3 equivalent I would be obliged.

Thanks,

Mark

There are two mods for this
Who has read this topic ?
[Beta] JC Topic View Tracker 0.5.2
The last one also tracks user IPs.
I abandoned all of my mods.

Are there any other differences between the two?

I suppose I could just install each of them on separate test boards, but if someone already familiar with both MODs can save me some time by spelling out the differences, it'd be great.

First one is easy to install, and everyone can see its data. But, you can hide if you want, see the link above post.

The second one is more complicated and for moderatores only with permissions. I just tried it, seemed to me a little complicated in comparison to first one.

I had a good look at the thread for the second. The project was started but completed. It was then taken up by another person and is being worked on. Sadly there are typos in the instructions which do not lead to confidence in it. Going to the person's website where there is supposed to be a page tells me it is being moved.

The original I used in version 2 allowed Admin to click on a user's name and see the basic info, plus what that person had been looking at. The list can get quite long for heavy posters though. I wish I could find the original.

I was hoping to get this installed shortly and give it a run through.

Yeah, I had the same misgivings about the second one after reading the thread, but it does seem to have more features than the first.

I'm going to try installing the second one sometime during the next few hours, and afterwards I'll post my thoughts on it back here.

Phpbbhacks forum is down at the moment and the nivisec is just a blog now. I did send him an email but it depends if he is still using that addr.

Didn't fancy the first one. I admit I know little about PHP but I have installed a few mods and this one is not for beginners I feel. The install instructions need to be rewritten to get rid of errors and make the set-up on the ACP more clear. I found it did nothing and after messing with it I think I will just wipe the test site and look elsewhere.

No response from nivisec!

I've managed to get the second one working (the one with the typos)... other than the facility to switch the tracking on/off on a forum-to-forum basis in the ACP.

Supposedly a "Track Topic Viewers" option should show up for each forum in the ACP's Forum Administration section.

To test the MOD, I had to manually switch on tracking in the database.

Other than the abovementioned problem, the MOD seems to work beautifully.

That could be why I was seeing nothing. What steps did you take to do this? I haven't looked at the DB.

I had a look through the V2 Mod, but a lot has changed in V3 and it will take a while to find the references now. Plus, I am not hot at PHPBB and where everything is located.

This worked for my MySQL database. Obviously, change 'db_name' (and the forum_id number to the number of the forum you wish to track).

Code: Select all

UPDATE db_name.phpbb_forums SET forum_topic_tracker = '1' WHERE phpbb_forums.forum_id =2 LIMIT 1;
I wish I could get it working in ACP. Others have managed, so we probably both have a typo somewhere.
