Custom Header and Navigation Links

Post by gabbo93 » Thu Oct 23, 2008 6:15 am

Hey,

I want to design my own custom header and links to other pages in my website, how would i go about doing that, i have tried looking through all the folders but because i am not that highly experienced in PHP some of the stuff in the files just confused me.

Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

Kind Regards,

Gabriel

If you use prosilver, try styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.html

The HTML-edits can be done in ./styles/YourStyle/template/overall_header.html and the CSS edits in ./styles/YourStyle/theme/common.css.

Do not forget to purge you cache! :idea: (And the CSS -> ACP --> 'STYLES' --> Theme's --> 'YourStyle' --> 'Refresh')

That seems easy enough, but I don't see that reference or line in that file?

Should I replace the bracketed with my http:// to direct to my main website?
<a href="{U_INDEX}" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}
Or where are those refernces that I can change?

Wich style do you use by the way? ;) (in subsilver(-based) style you need to place the CSS in stylesheet.css ;) )

In overall_header.html you can add some. If you want to edit the 'Board index' link, you have to do the following:

prosilver (-based)
OPEN
./styles/YourStyle/template/overall_header.html

FIND

Code: Select all

<li class="icon-home"><a href="{U_INDEX}" accesskey="h">{L_INDEX}</a>
INLINE FIND

Code: Select all

{U_INDEX}
REPLACE WITH

Code: Select all

yourpage.html

SubSilver2 (-based)
OPEN
./styles/YourStyle/template/breadcrumbs.html

FIND

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_INDEX}</a>
INLINE FIND

Code: Select all

{U_INDEX}
REPLACE WITH

Code: Select all

yourpage.html

We are using both styles mentioned. I guess I am missing something, I changed the {U_Index} to my website, but it didn't change the link on the forum.

I am pretty much a novice+.

Do I keep the { } around the http://mysite.com like the U_Index? Actually I tried both ways, and didn't seem to matter.

Also, I changes this line too -
<div id="site-description"> <a href="{U_INDEX}" , to my website. Tried it both ways, nothing changed.

What am I overlooking? thanks for your patience.

No, you have to remove the { }. Have you purged your cache? ;)

This line (<div id="site-description"> <a href="{U_INDEX}") is the line which makes the logo linking. You could change that too. The logo will link then to your website. :)
