2 to 3 convert error: Unknown system variable 'Names' 1193

Get this when using convert function in 3.03 from older 2.x phpbb board.
Don't know enough about all this to fix myself.. any thoughts to help convert my older 2.x board?

I know my old database on the 2.x is at a different location at godaddy than the newer 3.x database. Different servers.. but both boards are at the same host and domain.

I checked my old db.. it was mysql 4.0 and my new target db is 4.1

I'm copying over my old 4.0 into a new 4.1 db and will try to run the phpbb restore function. perhaps, the issue about 4.0 not dealing with NAMES will go away.. time will tell..

Ok.. good so far..

Copying my old 4.0 to a new 4.1 then pointing the conversion to the new db got me past the NAMES error and I'm converting now.. crossing fingers..

hopes this helps others migrating older 2.x boards.

Can you tell me how to do that and did this help?

I've just tried converting from v2 to V3.0.3 and got the same error (see below). I was trying to go from a MySQL V4.0 to a V5.0 database. However I'm not sure this is the problem. I've been trying for a while (unsuccessfully) to upgrade and this particular problem did not occur with phpBB V 3.02

If you are going to be importing into an empty database, it is not necessary to select ADD DROP TABLES. If you are importing into the phpBB3 database, you want to be sure the phpbB3 tables have a different table prefix from the phpBB2 tables. If you are importing into a separate database, then this is not a concern. I have never used the ADD IF NOT EXISTS option.
